Guest guest
Hi, I am just trying to figure out our finances and how I could some how contribute in a more substantial way but feel as if it would jeopardize my child. I wonder if anyone else is in a similar situation and might have figured things out and can give some advice? My daughter who is 5 has DS, autism and a whole bunch a medical problems that require many visits to the doctors. On average we go to 5-7 doc appointments per month. Then you add on the regular therapies and the great need for habilitation and we are usually booked. I do have sometimes where we don't have one appointment for a week or even two and then a couple get jammed in one week. The point is I would not make a reliable employee with just the doctor appointments alone and I feel like if I cut out her hab and reduced her therapies she would suffer but on the other hand our finances are suffering because of this damn economy and plain old bad luck. I'm so torn as to what to do. If I were to pay for childcare for my daughter and her younger brother to go out and work I would not make more than a couple of hundred at most a month after everything BUT it is a couple hundred more than we have now. I was wondering if any of you have worked through similar issues and figured out a way to earn a living while not jeopardizing her learning or health? I think we need to create some sort of company that hires parents of disabled kids to work from home at what ever hours they are able to do so. I have thought of doing daycare in my home but we still would run into the problem of me needing to take her to doctor appointments and work with therapist while also watching the other kids. I KNOW so many others have done it but wondered how they do it!!??
