Guest guest
Hi, Everyone.....Amy.....I give Gareth one pill of plain Benadryll (25 mg) just about every night for sleeping. Doc told me yrs ago that is helps kid with DS breath better at night, too, by keeping their nasal passages open and less congested. Melatonin makes G hyper. Try a pill before going on vacation to make sure it doesn't make him hyper. ....first off, welcome to the group. My kid, Gareth, is 22 y/o, dual dx'd at age 5/6 ish with DS/ASD/OCD, and he survived YEARS of just Cheerios for breakfast, fruit salad for lunch (a concoction of cottage cheese, chopped peaches, strawberry jello mix, and cool whip), Ice cream at 2:00, and Spaghetti'Os for dinner. He would only drink milk, too. At that age, he was just a 'growler' for communication and a wicked 'head banger' whenever angry/upset/frustrated, etc. Like many of the older kids, we didn't have the option of all the 'therapies' there are now a days and our kids survived just fine. Pick your battles and don't fight the ones that won't mean anything tomorrow or next week. Gareth eats a lot of different foods/drinks these days and isn't hurting for pounds!!! Also, many of us have found that stimulants for ADD/ADHD have made our kids more aggressive/nastier. Take care, Everyone. Margaret
