Guest guest
Hi, Everyone....Charlyne.....Gareth's DE class was only academics. Driving in a car and on the road was totally up to parents after the class finished. All I remember is that after he finished the class, he didn't want to drive. Dad.....Welcome to the group. My son, Gareth, is 21 y/o, with the DS/ASD/OCD dx. He got his *official* dx while we lived in Brea, Ca. We're in Pa, now. I know you said something about no insurance, but when was the last time he had a total physical? Many kids with DS at that age have GERD ......gastric reflux. The acid burns the esophagus and extreme behaviors may be the only way to say * I hurt.* Has his hips been checked for dysplasia? What about his knees....do his knee caps rock back and forth causing pain during the day from walking? Recurrent sinus/ear infections? Many of the kids on this site also have celiac disease.....causing abdominal pain. Due to the autism, many can't relate pain accordingly and act out behaviorally. Just some ideas to toss out for you to think about. What does the school system say about a possible dual dx of DS/Autism? Surely, the teachers or speech therapist have ideas one way or another. What do they use to communicate with him in school......pictures, writing, etc? Take care, Everyone. Margaret
