Elie will only (and has always) only used a larger straw - for years we

saved and re-used the /Mc ones as the ones one buys at the store

are too narrow!!!! He was too lazy to suck hard!!!

We also have a drinking problem. used to drink out of a sippy cup with

no problem. He will be 13 in 2 weeks. He has never been able to use a straw.

Now he refuses to drink unless I let him have a bottle. I hate to do it and it's

embarrassing that he is so old but I don't know how else to get him to drink. He

will suck it right down. But if I refuse to give it to him he will not drink at

all and will dehydrate. It started one time a few years ago when he had a

stomach virus and I gave him Pedialyte in the cup. After that I think he

associates the cups with being sick. I even bought all different ones but still

he won't take them.

Sorry I don't have any advise. Hopefully the larger straws will work for you.

Haylee has never been able to drink from a sippy cup either. She uses straws,

the kind that bends at the tip. It took her a long time to drink enough on her

own. She still doesnt drink as much as a normal kid her age would but its

enough to where she has enough wet diapers. I totally understand you being

nervous with the t & a bc they must stay hydrated. I would sit in front of her

with the straw and put it in her face and make her sip till the cup is almost

empty and if you can do that three times a day or say for every meal she will be

fine. otherwise be prepared for IV fluids :( Go with your mommy instinct on

this one. Sorry I couldnt be that much help..

can you freeze juice and feed her slush from a spoon as an interim solution?
