Hi Ruth:

I just wanted to say " hi " and that I am also an adopted mom of two boys both

with DS and PDD. I adopted as a single parent but then got married 5 years

ago. I am glad to see that everyone wants your PT fired. I also stick by a

comment I made earlier this spring, " therapies are not a life sentence for

our kids. " Like Sherry, I gave up on therapies early and we went to more

" typical " activities - such as playing in the park, gymnastics etc..

I remember when Isaac (now 13) was 6 months old and the PT got mad because

he could sit independently but only if I was nearby. She kept saying " NO! "

to him. As a first time mom I was appalled. A six month old in trouble for

bad form? He is quite an athlete now so I know I made the right decision in

getting rid of PT though he did have a bit in his early elementary years, at

school and as long as the PT did not complain about his behavior. Whenever

she would say, " he doesn't listen to me " I would say, " maybe he doesn't

really need PT, after all he is an excellent athlete. " I don't know if it

was ego or funding but that always made her try harder to be liked by him.

It also reminded her to pay attention to his behavior plan.

I also wanted to say that my kids pretty much need supervision 24/7. As in,

my husband and I are putting in reclaimed oak floors (which takes a lot of

time!) and I can only do it so many hours before the boys are just beside

themselves. They are maturing, probably 4 to 7 were the years Isaac was the

worst. We did start the gluten free diet then and that helped a lot. But

certainly when Isaac was 4 and through 7 maybe 8 he was busy, busy, busy.

He had many abilities so as long as I could maintain his energy level we

were fine but no one else could handle him. And I remember one spring day

taking the boys from park to park just so I could watch a movie that night.

Sure enough they crashed early! I was so proud I outlasted them.

In our world your son does not sound atypical nor does it sound like he

needs help from that PT.

Keep posting!

By the way we need 100 more square feet of reclaimed oak flooring if anyone

wants to sell us some!
