I picked up the plaquinil tonight. After standing in line for an hour. I

guess I will have to wait until after the eye exam before starting it. I am

going to go read the info that comes with the med. I guess I will can

insurance tomorrow. But I already asked about this and they said ONE eye exam

no

matter what the reason and that is with an optomistrist. So that will have to

do I guess.

I am still very concerned about the eye problems. I have a family history

of detatched retina, macular degeneration and cateracts. I don't want to

take any med that may put my eyes at risk. So I need to make a decision what I

am going to do. I am really thinking this is NOT the drug for me. I can't

risk my eyesite. I am far too young for that. I need to drive and I already

am light sensitive and have problems with nite vision. REading some of the

info..blurry vision and nite vision problems are common side effects. NOT

GOOD.

Hi Toni

I just wanted you to know that I took Plaquenil for years. I never had any

adverse effects (in fact I don't think it did anything). But as far as the

eye

thing is concerned I have a very good eye doctor and he told me that the

amount

they prescribe for arthritis would never do retinal damage. He said he had

done research on the subject and the concerns are from way back (the 20's

through the 40's) when doctors prescribed high doses of quinine (Plaquenil)

for

malaria. Check out http://www.rheumatology.org.nz/nz09008.htm

I feel the same concerns about plaquinil as you do Toni. That is the med I

started on this week. I havn't gotten my eye exam yet. I will have to wait

til the weekend to get that. I already have bad eye site. The last thing I

need is more eye problems. Plus, the pamplet my doc gave me to read about

the drug, states it takes 2-6 months for you to feel the effects of the drug

That really conserns me. I finished my first bout of prednisone and only

had about a 25%-30% improvement rate. So my rheumy called in a stronger

prednisone dose amount. I have to start that today. I am going back to my

pain doc today. I am really having quite intense pain right now, and now my

back spasms are cutting up again. Just can't seem to catch a break. My

elavil hasnt been working well for a few nights. I have been so anxious

about all this stuff going on, plus the fact that I am bleeding somewhere, I

just can't get to sleep. Mornings feel like I have been in a fight all night

and lost. LOL! Or the old expression " rode hard and put away wet "

Anyway...anyone had quicker results from the Plaquinil than the time the

pamplet gives?

Hugs to all

Toni,

I know this is a big decision for you, and you will make the choice

for you. These meds are scary, and have so many side effects. They

also work differently on all of us. I have been on the Plaquenil

since May, and have been doing really well. I think with stress, and

over doing it, that is why I'm flaring. The Plaquenil started working

the second month for me. It's just so important to stop the

progression of the disease, so I know it's tough for you. Just know

that your in my prayers, Tawny
