Guest guest
Sherry, Thanks for asking. We are finally home after 35 days in the hosptial. fought numerous infections but in the end her white count really rebounded and was normal on Tuesday. We have begun the second phase of chemo which means she is considered in remission and now they go after the remaining cells and to make sure it doesn't come back. She is really weak and cannot walk without help. It is so hard to see her lose all that we worked so hard to gain but she is feeling better and eating well so those are positives. Here is her caringbridge site. We so appreciate all prayers and positive thoughts as this is a long and tough fight for my girl. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/ashleymayer I know chemotherapy is dangerous and our doctor referred to it as " controlled poisoning " but when told my daughter would die in 3 to 4 months if not treated, I thought it was a better choice. I also believe in the healthy eating, exercise and positive thoughts. But would not eat and could barely walk before diagnosis due to the leukemia so those cells had to be killed off to give her a chance to regain her health. We had already begun the juice plus and plan to restart it when possible with approval from the docs. Just my story as I am sure there are many as different as everyone's beliefs and that is great! Guest guest
Aw Carla...you just made me cry. I am SO sorry for you and your sweet little girls...both of them. This can't be easy for either. I wish I knew about the caringbridge site sooner....I will visit you there and keep up with your journey. Don't ever for one moment second guess your decision to go forward with chemo. Of course it was the right way to go....my husband only went thru 5 days of a chemo type treatment for his blood cancer but he's now gained another 5-10 years to live (we hope). I remember second guessing myself for years after 's heart surgery at age 8 and going thru a complete loss of everything she had learned for well over a year. She had gotten so sick from infection following surgery. But she would probably have been gone by now without the surgery...at the very least extremely ill. Your situation is just so difficult and I admire you for getting this far and being such a wonderful mom. I can only imagine the nightmares you've been thru. I'll visit you at CB and stay in touch. 35??? days in the hospital???? Oh my. Poor babies...all of you. Sherry Sherry, Thanks for asking. Guest guest
Dear Carla, You, and your family will continue to be in my prayers. My heart goes out to all of you, as this journey must be very difficult. Thank God, is feeling better so that she is able to eat...I always felt so much better too after I was able to eat, esp. during weeks when I was off treatment. You are a courageous and brave soldier in a very tough circumstance. Your courage will give the motivation and support that she needs to get through this and she will! I also believe that God will bless your entire family with an abundance of resources (in all shapes and sizes) to get you through this ordeal, along with many unexpected miracles. I have personally experienced this over the past 6 months, by choosing to look for them. Please keep us posted on 's progress and try to take respite moments for yourself whenever you can. Guest guest
Carla, Cheering for you from here and ALL KIDS. Of course never second guess chemo. Why would you? There is no other way to go for a child with leukemia. just had his six-month check today and is three years off treatment and cancer free. I will remember the difficulty of those 3 and a half years of treatment forever, but I will appreciate 's hugs and hand in mine more than I ever could have otherwise. Not that it was worth it; I'd trade the cancer experience away in a second. But with the help of chemo and good doctors and faith if you have it, you and will come through this. Hang in and take a moment at a time!
