Guest guest
BONIVA is a prescription medicine for the management of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Important Safety Information (Tablets) You should not take BONIVA if you have low blood calcium, cannot sit or stand for at least 60 minutes, have severe kidney disease, or are allergic to BONIVA. Stop taking BONIVA and tell your doctor right away if you experience difficult or painful swallowing, chest pain, or severe or continuing heartburn, as these may be signs of serious upper digestive problems. Follow the dosing instructions for once-monthly BONIVA carefully to lower the chance of these events occurring. Side effects may include diarrhea, pain in the arms or legs, or upset stomach. Tell your doctor and dentist about all the medicines you take. Tell them if you develop jaw problems (especially following a dental procedure) or severe bone, joint, and/or muscle pain. Your doctor may also recommend a calcium and vitamin D supplement. This was taken from Boniva's own site. http://www.boniva.com/ Precautions and Side Effects (Page 2) * low blood calcium levels (hypocalcemia) * inability to sit upright or stand for 60 minutes * severe kidney disease Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: * disorders of the esophagus (e.g., esophageal stricture or achalasia) * difficult or painful swallowing * kidney problems * stomach/intestinal disorders (e.g., ulcers) Infrequently, serious jawbone problems (osteonecrosis) have occurred in people taking similar medications. Most people were also using other medications or had conditions that have actually caused the jawbone problem. If you have cancer, anemia, blood clotting disorders, infections in the mouth or other diseases of the mouth, or poor dental hygiene, see your dentist for a full examination/treatment before you start ibandronate. Make sure your dentist knows your entire medical history, including any cancer radiation treatments. Also tell your dentist of all the medications you are using, especially corticosteroids such as prednisone, cancer chemotherapy, and ibandronate. Consult your dentist for more details. http://www.healthcentral.com/osteoporosis/find-drug-67473-73_2.html
