I took my boys to the doctor last week for an athletic physical and she once

again exclaimed, " I never see you guys! " And I said, " I know, my boys are

never sick I don't know why " . She said, " I know why. You can't eat any

crap at your house. "

Thanks to Isaac's food allergies (and she said that his allergy to wheat is

really Celiacs Disease) our house is like Sherry's house. We eat either

natural or organic meat - though I am trying to reduce the quantity because

I used to live as a vegetarian and still won't eat cows or pigs. Organic

fruits and veggies and we have treats but I am a minimalist with sugar and

have lately been using Aguave Nectar. So, we do have brownies but with

Buckwheat flour (that is my new favorite) and Omega 3 eggs and the good

stuff. Probably the doctor wouldn't be thrilled to know we still eat

brownies but I need chocolate.

I really think there is something to our kids being the canaries in the

mine. A diet that makes them well will also make us well. I think they are

more physically sensitive so it is more of an issue with them.

I was just really impressed that a doctor thought the answer was their diet.

It made me have greater confidence in living this way because there are

moments when I want to say, " the heck with it, cheeseburgers for everyone! "

Who made a really great casserole yesterday with red lentils and red quinoa

and everyone actually ate it! DH said, " I'll eat this because it does taste

good but don't tell me what is in it. "
