I did go to the ER cuz I could not find an open jewelry store. I was afraid it

would be a long wait at hosp. I was right. and they insisted I try ice and

lubricant. I knew it was beyond ice and lubricant.

then they brought in a ring cutter. they worked an hour with the ring cutter

and got nowhere except to further traumatize my finger, they used the ring

cutter on my palm side smashing my finger and the stones into the hard table

top, and the leverage was smashing the bands togehter and against my bone. They

went and got 4 more ring cutter tools, but they did not do any better, the rings

were not coming off. They also from the friction created a blister. I was in

such pain by then, and so frustrated. I was there so long hospitality came to

see if the room temp was OK, did I want a meal or anything, was I comfortable.

The paperwork lady came to grill me for weird questions about my ChampVA

coverage and Medicare....and by then I was a trembling mass of human tisue.

They wound up breaking my finger due toleverage aginst the ring bands and they

called maintainance in which their tools to try something different. Finally

they got one off, and then another and finally the 3rd, but in the process, they

slit open my finger with one of the bands.

Then they made me hang around to wait to see the doc to approve my finger was

OK. He was tending to 2 critical emergencies, so I had to wait quite awhile,

all I wanted to do was flee. Doc walked in and said wiggle your fingers. I

told him to take a hike, no way were my fingers gonna wiggle.let me go. He said

he had to see my fingers wiggle. I told him the arthritis would not allow my

fngers to wiggle whether the rings were off or on, let me go home. He asked why

would I let my rings get so tight, instead of having had them resized. I said

look at 11 last nite, they were too LOOSE. due to the ra, by midnite they were

like this and I had kept the entire hand in a bag of ice all nite hoping it

would help. The rings were NOT too tight until the flare began, and it went so

fast I couldn't get them off.

It was SO traumatic, I doubt I will ever put any rings back on any of my

fingers. But, the rings are off, now. Whew. a broken and slit finger later.

Dear Dreamer,

Sounds like you went to our hospital!! sometimes I don't think they

even know how to get a bandaid out of the package. I can't believe

they subjected you to so much pain and then the idiot doctor wanting to

know why you waited so long!! They did at least set the finger for you

and give you an antibiotic? If not, I'd be on the phone first to my

doctor, and second to the hospital administrator.

I can't wear many of my rings now, and my wedding ring is getting a bit

tight (though I take it off at night now just in case) because there's

a tumor on that finger. I figure when I can't wear my best rings any

more, I'll put them on a chain and wear them that way. Who says they

have to be on your fingers?

Rest and heal,

Judi
