This was asked recently on the DSTNI list, and Dr. Leichtman said maximum 3

mg.

Ecki....I'm not sure if Dr. L was referring only to the 14 month old baby in

question or as a 3mg limit for all ages???

Anyway there has been an ongoing discussion on ABMD (autism biomed group) about

what dosages the kids are on. They range is from 1mg to 6 mg. And most seemed to

be referring to kids in the 5-8yo range. When melatonin first appeared we were

all told to keep the dosage as low as possible because sometimes a higher dose

did not work as well. Seems like you have to find your optiomal range for each

child. And on the aut list parents with more than one child have found that

different dosages work differently for both kids, as well as the time release

form working better for those who have trouble staying asleep, and the regular

working better for those who have trouble falling asleep.

In addition they report drugged out, sleepiness in kids in the AM if the dose is

too high.

Tori has taken as much as 8 mg. at times...I have also given 3-5mg and then

2 tblsp Benedryl if they didn't kick in. All approved by her Docs.'
