Guest guest
Hi, Sara, We are currently in Old Forge, PA (think Scranton). is in our local elementary school this year. 2/3 day in Life Skills; 1/3 day in with typical 1st graders (homeroom, specials, lunch, recess). Last year they did not have an appropriate setting for him so he was transported to another school district to be in an NEIU Life Skills class for his " Kindergarten " year. Ironically, he was Kinder age for our district, but not the district he went to. As a result of this he was too young to be integrated into a typical Kinder class there. At any rate, I don't go by grades or ages or anything else anymore except 's own compass! > glad to hear your voice. Where are you located??? Guest guest
The " rule " in PA when I was there was 2 years plus or minus the actual age. Thus my son, Elie, got to stay in middle school until he was 15. I would have preferred that he never left the middle school he was in (which was 6.7.8.) as it was a GREAT place. But Elie was in K for 2 years, then ast grade one uyear and 2nd grade 2 years. Third grade was a disaster and his last year of integrated classes. After that, he was in a self contained class with integration thru specials,. NEver lunch until he got to his last year of school down here in GA. HE just couldn't handle the noise of a cafeteria. Down here he had no trouble (age?, different setting?, chairs and tables attached to the floor?, paper and plastic? ) And I tried and suceeded until he turned 15 to keep him out of IU anything. HE went to an IU k-12 school for 4 months until I got him in an APS. Not sure if there are any Wilkesbarrow-Scranton people on here and what the schools are like up there.
