Hi, Everyone.....Nereida and Carla.....I second all of Sara's

recommendations - especially a wheel chair for the older kids. You don't have

to do

any explaining if you don't want to to strangers but I always tried to be

polite and just tell them 'he's autistic.' Now a days, everyone seems to know

someone with an autistic child, so it's not like 10-15 yrs ago when lots

of folks hadn't heard of autism. I, too, would scream and get angry after

fighting to get Gareth to go somewhere --- not too often, but enough to know

I shouldn't have done it and felt like crap after getting to that stage.

Most of the time, bribery worked for Gareth, but on rare occasions, it was

a battle that I wasn't going to win.

Gareth started a new job today!!! It's at a 'sheltered workshop' ---

piece work --- but they do prepare kids for other outside jobs if they find that

they are capable. With the unemployment rate @10% here, even the campus

jobs that usually went to the special ed kids are being given to the regular

students. They said he did an excellent job. I am so glad......he's so

bummed or sickly lately

Take care, Everyone

Margaret.
