I'd just give her something she *needs*. Clothes, shoes, etc. I'm very big on

practical gifts, as toys are fickle, disposable, and bad for the environment.

Also the Wii Fit is way too hard for Leila. It sounds as though it may be for

your girl, too. Let us know what you come up with. :-)

Darwyn (5) likes Wii Music, especially watching the handbells " game " . And one of

his favourite songs " twinkle twinkle little star " is an option for conducting.

He doesn't do any of it himself yet, just watches us... But it is fairly simple

and involves just swinging the remote, not pressing any buttons. I'm hopeful

that one day (after I've conducted twinkle little star until my arm falls off)

that he'll pick up the remote and try.

We boought the WII with the first excercise thinking Elie would enjoy the

bowling and baseball. But the controll is way too hard for him to master.

I have written with no response about simplifying the controls. I guess I

will havae to hope some smart Paretn will make an aftermarket controller for

our kids!!!

Hey, I was gonna say Wii music!!! You don't have to have any control which

is great and she can bang or strum along just by shaking the remote...

fantastic! You can also select 'dog' as on the of the instruments and the

Christmas...UGH!...and the only reason I don't like it much anymore is because

of having to try to find something for . And yet...here I am...online

trolling thru ebay and weird websites looking for just that one particular video

or DVD she will love. I just can't give her stuff she *needs*...I'm a sucker at

Xmas. I want her to have something she wants. Now that she finally appreciates

Xmas after all those years of spending all day forcing her to open 5 presents I

like to try to please her. But it is so difficult. Videos are still the only

thing she really wants. Then come cassette music tapes, then DVDs and then CDs.

That's it. At 20 she has finally shown an interest in Sesame St...so I've

rounded up a few old videos for her. I hope she likes them. Gosh I've spent up

to 3.99 on them on ebay LOL. She's definitely not an expensive kid.

And this was another year I remarked how happy I was to realize that she's

actually too old for some things.....I thgought I'd wander the baby department

of ToysR Us for the rest of my life.

I am the same way. I really want her to be excited about at least one present.

Videos are 's favorite too and we have in the last year just moved away

from Barney and the Wiggles. Now it is High School Musicals and Hannah Montana

but she still watches her Barneys. Some family are going together to get her a

rocker glider. She loves to really get to rocking while watching her shows!!

Oh a rocker glider...good thinking. used to rock so hard on hers it kept

Can't find and don't remember now if there is a volume 3. But I bouoght

them on Ebay - brand new. And Elie LOVES them. Each has three DVD's in it.

They were originally bought for our super long summer trip, but he only

watched it when we stopped for the nite!! not at all in the car.

And they stay at MY house - not his!!!

Thanks for your quick reply sara....I was on ebay and stumbled across these by

searching the dates you mentioned. Too bad they're not in VHS but those days are

disappearing. Apparently people are hoping for a volume 3 but none so far. I

think she has one of them....I've gotta go check. Then I'll get her the other

volume whichever it is. Thanks for the idea!!!

Seeing she'll be 21 soon I guess it is " safe " for her to watch these sinful

episodes that discuss eating cookies and other such transgressions lol.

I think the bioggest problem for new kids is that they move more slowly - a

plus for Elie!!

Been getting Elie movies at the fleas between $.50-1.00!! What will I do

what will I do when all that is available is those D*** DVD which are

protected and I cannot copy them!!! They scratch so easily! Tapes were

better - we could cut out sections and re-align for ages before Elie

noticed. :`(

We bought a video tape mender a long time ago that worked great...also cutting

and splicing a bit off. Then we got hold of a GoVideo on ebay that was

programmed before they were set to be unable to copy macrovision. So we have a

vast metal cabinet (locked) with all the masters in there and we make copies

only for her to watch.

So far she's really not into DVDs if there are videos available...but she will

put in a good session with the DVDs every once in awhile. I'm gonna get her the

Volume one of the Sesame Street 3 disc collection...as we do have volume 2...she

actually picked it out in Target one day.

Cyndi....thanks so much for the offer but pretty much has everything ever

made into a video; she's got plenty that she doesn't even like so we have to

stick with her old favs. I'm just trolling around to see what's even out there

that we may have missed. I used to do consignment shops too but these days ebay

is alot easier for me.

We have a son who copies videos for Elie and keeps the masters as well. But

he just wears them out - not so much now that he is with the guys cause he

is not spending as much time in the house. We old people really prefer to

be home rather than on the run. His new friends are always on the go or

watching sports (never happened in this house) and he watches with them!

Sara, I wish I knew how to fix the tapes. So many of 's vhs tapes wear

out in one spot from rewinding and they keep stopping at that part and he gets

very frustrated. I wind up throwing them out. How do you cut them and re-align?

neighbor of mine works for a place that makes dvds and he said that the solution

is extremely poisonous before it is formed. I wonder if it is dangerous after

they are made. I buy most of 's vhs tapes on ebay in lots and at garage

sales. They also have a lot of them in the new thrift store that I am addicted

to now. They have great toys for a dollar or less. So when it's too cold for

garage sales I don't have to go into withdrawals anymore!

Been getting Elie movies at the fleas between $.50-1.00!! What will I do

what will I do when all that is available is those D*** DVD which are

protected and I cannot copy them!!! They scratch so easily! Tapes were

better - we could cut out sections and re-align for ages before Elie

noticed. :`(

Even I can repair VHS tapes now. The stretch is caused by the rewind -

TRS. Cut the thinned out worn out spot out. Then over lap slightly and use

scotch tape. I use the slightly foggy tape. Do this on a table and in good

light so that you get the tape to cover evenly. Cut off any extra that is

too wide. I use tiny scissors like cuticle scissors .

When Elie was home in October, he found 5 tapes for 50 cents each. He had

$200 and was so pleased. He loves sthe Elmo Karaoke tape - we are on number

2 now.

Thanks Sara. I am going to try that. I am tired of buying multiple copies of

his favorites. I think these shows are so embedded in our heads. We walk around

quoting Elmo all day. Especially my daughter and I. Other people would have no

idea what we are talking about. Especially because we always say " thank you

baby " (from Elmo's world) for everything. Even my best friend Ellen finds

herself doing it just from hearing things over and over while we are on the

phone.

Jim and I speak in Videoese all the time. We've agreed we could never get

divorced because noone else would understand us. And I'm talking videos from the

80's...the Sharon Lois and Bram Elephant Show that was on Nickleodeon, Barney of

course. but also so many other live action videos...Kidsongs, Wee sing blah blah

blah. There always seems to be a video quote that comes to mind for every

ocasion.

Case in point...dh just called with all sorts of craziness going on today before

his boat trip tomorrow. In response to my questions he said he didn't know the

answers ...everything was up in the air...then he launches into a rendition of

" We're up in the air...we're junior birdmen...up in the air...way up

hiiiiighhhhh " (reprised by Sharon Lois and bram on one of 's 5000 videos).

And of course we can never drive by a firetruck without singing that annoying

" Hurry Hurry Drive that firetruck " ...and we do it to ourselves... isn't

even contributing vocally. Of course she will run into her room and pick out the

very same song we've been singing on the precise video. I still marvel at how

she can do that.

That's exactly it. A video quote comes to mind for every occasion! I even heard

my husband say he was like the noo noo from Teletubbies when he was tidying up.

My 18 year old daughter is constantly quoting cookie monster. Everyone else

probably thinks we are nuts.
