Guest guest
Ladies, I'd like everyone to know how I feel, and why I came to this forum. First I came here from a forum on hair loss, another poster on the forum (Hairsite) posted the link. So I thought I'd check it out. Now I'll tell you my story so you can understand why I am looking into everything. I have had alopecia areata for around 20 years. That is hair loss in round spots, and it can also be diffuse. It started in my early 20's. They say it is genetic and you can inherit alopecia areata. No big deal, I have learned to live with it and had to wear a wig for a year. My life has been crazy for years, my Dad has had 5 spinal operations and is not well, and was told he won't be able to get around in a few years. I have been his caregiver, housekeeper, and my heart breaks to see my Dad in pain. So my stress is very high. I got saline Mc Ghan implants October of 93, over the muscle and they turned out great. I had no complications, they are still soft and I have no pain in my implants. A little over 4 years ago, I got pregnant. The only reason I knew I was pregnant was my dermatologist. I had marks on my skin, above my lip. Like someone took a pencil and shaded it in. During this time, my Mom almost died and my Dad is disabled. I was the one holding down the house. I did not continue with the pregnancy. Now most pregnancy related things go away within a year. Many peels, bleach, and gels. I still had the pregnancy mask. It took over 3 years for it to get 75% lighter. The doc said some women keep it for life. It also took 3 years for my periods to get on track, no thanks to the nutty endo that put me on aldactone with no birth control. Thanks to him, giving me 3 periods a month. I have a ferritin level of 34. Which does not help hair loss, and is a cause of it and it takes a ferritin of 80 to regrow hair. Also since age 25, I have had milk in my breast and I high prolactin level that every doctor blows off. Prolactin is a major cause of hair loss. I had high prolactin 5 years before implants, and alopecia areata 10 years before implants. Today I am a hair stylist, but I was a stripper for 15 years. I blew both my knees out many times and was a very hard dancer. I always had ice on one part of my body or another and use to wrap my knees and right wrist in order to work. Which I covered with leg warmers and bandanas. I quit dancing for my boyfriend 3 years ago. Must be love as I quit for no man. So after the pregnancy, I had the pregnancy mask, short cycles with heavy bleeding and about 8 months later I noticed hair loss in an all over shedding of 100 to 300 hairs a day. My hair still grows back in with thick strands so it is not female pattern baldness. I do get my areata spots once a year, which grow back in 6 months. I shed like my cat. OK, this is also what I have noticed but not to the point of telling a doctor. Mild joint pain, wrists, elbow, and kness, not everyday, and it seems to come with my period. ( my friend and I chart our joint pain, she has no implants.) Feet and hands have been swollen first 5 mins in AM. Not everyday, maybe 3 times a month. Heel pain, not everyday and only when I sit weird or my feet are up higher then my body. This last thing is what lead me here. I had burning skin for a few weeks. My back, butt, shoulders and side of my body, top of legs. After the burn I broke out, butt, chest back, top of legs. All but a few on my back have cleared up now. Now, my hair loss can be my areata or my pregnancy, because if my hormones did not go back to normal on their own. I need a doctor to correct it, and that is a guessing game even for a great doc. If it is my areata gone diffusa, well I'll have to deal as I'll probably go bald and there is no cure. As for my joint pain, I did dance for 15 years and the pain is mild not even enough to take a pill. Heel pain 5 inch heels will kill your feet and the damage might be from that. Burning skin is why I came here and why I will never post again. I started taking a hair supplement. I never really looked at everything in it. When I talked to my derm's nurse today, she told me it might be the biotin in my hair supplement. See I stopped taking it and no burning skin. The only reason I know I have a problem on biotin, as I overdosed on it years ago. Why? Well, as a dancer we had to be tan and sexy. So biotin in a high dose, makes your skin hot and red. Under black lights it looks like a killer tan. I took way to much and ended up in the ER. They had ice bags all over me, my body was burning up. Later the ER Doc yelled at me telling me high doses of biotin causes organ failure. Biotin can cause burning skin. My skin has not burned since I stopped taking it a month ago. I will take it now to prove my point. I came on this forum for advice and to learn what implants can do. I thought I had made a friend. It seems I am not welcome here unless I believe everything that is wrong with me is implant related, even if I had the problem before implants. Now yes I do believe implants can be harmful to some women. Yes my eyes are open. Here is my point to everyone and the friend I thought I had on this forum. Isn't it in my best interest to find out why my prolactin is high, could be a pituitary tumor. which can cause hair loss and my hormones to be off. Or should I blow it off say it's my implants and get them out and keep the tumor? Now I'm not saying that is what is wrong. High prolactin levels can be from a pituitary tumor. Since the hair loss, high prolactin levels, and some of the joint pain were pre implants shouldn't I look in all directions? Now it seems I am not welcome here because I won't blame it on my implants right away and I'm exploring everything. It seems if I'm not willing to get them out, I am not wanted or allowed to be informed and up to date on the implant info. When I told my friend that I have in the past had a reaction to biotin, she said why are you on the forum then. Well if you didn't get sick, most of you would still have implants. If it is not my implants why should I rip them out. If my scalp biopsy comes back it is not my areata. I'll have to look at my implants as the cause. YES if it is the implants I will get them out. Maybe I'm nuts, but I think I'll make sure I don't have a brain tumor from the prolactin before I run to explant. Yes, I'm looking at other reasons, as half of what is wrong with me was pre implants. I'd like to stay on the forum to keep up on all the info. I won't post or e mail anyone, as I have been asked why I'm even here. I hope you all get better and wish you the best. Guest guest
Dear Nik: Please take a look at the Mentor saline implant booklet and the FDA information. They recommend that if you have an autoimmune disease (which alopecia acreata is) that you do not have saline implants. The implants may not be the cause of the hair loss but they can exacerbate the condition. I believe the hair loss is a combination of nutritional and hormonal conditions which the silicone immune disease can create although their are many other causes of hair loss as there are other causes of fibromyalgia. Heavy metal testing would also be a good idea. . ----- Original Message ----- From: nikkipep <GP369@...> < > Sent: Saturday, December 15, 2001 3:47 AM Subject: I feel unwelcome here. Guest guest
Nik This is kind of what I have been telling you not in so many words. I think you may have misinterpreted my intentions to you, I just felt that you want to keep the implants so bad that you are letting it kind of blind you to what is going on. You say your eyes are open and I hope and pray that they are, ok. You are always welcome to post here, just relax, remember this is a support site and not a pro implant site, no one here is going to tell you to keep implants if you are sick, or even if your not sick, at least not Patty and I, or most others, e, , Martha etc etc, we all have had bad experiences and know enough to know implants are bad news. please try to stay calm I don't want this group to turn into an argumentive place, we need to remember what we are dealing with here, illness and implants, and that includes hair loss and autoimmune disorders. I think Dr Kolb summed it up well, if you want to keep your implants then at least start doing some serious detoxing, I do care and so do the rest of us, Love ----- Original Message ----- From: " Dr. Kolb " <drkolb@...> < > Sent: Saturday, December 15, 2001 6:14 AM Subject: Re: I feel unwelcome here. Guest guest
Dear : What types of heavy metal testing are there. Guest guest
Nik, I am sorry you feel unwelcome here. I can't really see where anyone has posted anything derogatory towards you on the group, so if you have personal communications going on with some of the girls, then perhaps keeping it personal is the best thing. We have welcomed each and every woman who has posted here with open arms. I know I have, and as group owner and one of its moderators, I make sure there are no nasty things going on between members as far as I am able. I really want this to be a place of peace, support, encouragement and hope, with a little humor now and then. I do want to help you, and I will as best I can, but I don't think I could ever tell you that implants are not causing any of your problems. Maybe Dr. Hiatt can, but then again, maybe he thinks his MD certificate reads Medical Diety, and he has all the answers. I don't have all the answers for sure, but I do prefer to err on the side of caution where women's health is concerned. We are all willing to help you if you have real concerns about your breast implants, as almost every one of us who posts has had life threatening experiences with them. Many of us felt we were dying and have lost so much....you may not be able to relate, but when you have lost homes, jobs, income, career, family relationships, husbands, children, insurance, security and everything else in life that you hold dear because of implants, it is hard to tell anyone who comes here wondering if their implants may be causing harm that it may not be. (You don't really think we would tell you that, do you?) Since we are not all doctors, we can't tell you that it's not your implants or even what else it may be. That is something you have to do on your own. But what we can tell you is what we have experienced. And for most of us, it has not been pretty. For those who are serious about getting their health back, we have a few success stories that we can share to help others on their journey back to health. I am reallly sorry that you don't feel that you belong here. If you feel it may be related to your implants, please stick around and see what we have to talk about on the group. It would be my suggestion that if you feel it may be something to do with your pituitary, then by all means, go get that checked out, and please share with us the results. It may be instructive. As a side note, it is also interesting that a study in May showed a higher rate of brain cancer in women with implants. I am not trying to scare you....I am just sharing what information I have seen, and so maybe you do want to get that looked into further. It would be really hard to say if there was a tumor what caused it, but certainly breast implants couldn't be ruled out. When it comes to hair loss, for most of us, it has been directly related to our implant experience. That is what you will hear from us, because that is what we've experienced. We sure don't know all the reasons for hair loss, but we can tell you that implants is one of them. As for your skin burning, if you are taking high doses of niacin, well, you know what niacin does.....it does affect the liver. And our livers remove toxins from our body. And if you have a liver not working well when you have implants, then you have trouble. I was sorry to hear that Dr. Hiatt took the position that he did, as well. I don't think ANYONE can say at this point what illnesses are a result of implants or not. Again, the science is simply not complete. They don't know what causes autoimmune diseases. I think they are way too short sighted when taking time factors in consideration. Many times, illnesses do not appear for years after the initial exposure. Take beryllium for instance. It can take 30 years for beryllium disease to manifest itself after the initial exposure. Scientists know this now. But do you think beryllium is the ONLY substance out there that takes up to 30 years to manifest itself in disease? How about all these cancers out there? What other kinds of substances can produce diseases that have a long latency period? And then also ask yourself, can silicone exposure can be the straw that breaks the camels back, you know, the final insult to an already burdened body that brings on some other disease? Too many questions, not enough answers. Yet the doctors tell you glibly it is not the implants. Makes me wonder how they know so much when the science isn't even done figuring the immune system out yet. I do hope that you feel better, continue to feel great and live a long and happy life with your implants. We'll be here for a long time. Maybe you will never need us, but if you do, we can share our experiences with you and see if it can help. take care, Patty ----- Original Message ----- From: " nikkipep " <GP369@...> < > Sent: Saturday, December 15, 2001 12:47 AM Subject: I feel unwelcome here. Guest guest
, Was your hair loss diffuse or in patches. How long after you had your silicone replaced with saline did your hair loss stop. I've also heard that the silicone messed with your hormones. But I don't understand why this would happen. I am going to do the hair analysis with Doctors Data. Thank you so much. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dr. Kolb <drkolb@...> < > Sent: Saturday, December 15, 2001 8:47 PM Subject: Re: I feel unwelcome here.
