A portable DVD player would do that. It will play anything that is on a

DVD. Battery operated or with cara electric or with regular electric!

I got my daughter a portable DVD player too and this one also has an elect

plug so if we go to someones house to visit and she needs to get away from

the crowd and noise she can go to another room and plug it in and watch her

tape. Mine also works on the car battery and its portable battery so its

quite handy

Hi Leah

Hon, we got a portable DVD player for DJ. My criteria was that it was cheap in

price, easy to operate & could use batteries. Hubby has his own criteria which

did not resemble mine but was useful: size of screen.

The thing had to be able to play in the car & at the destinations travelled to.

I am no tech guru but like multi-functionality, ease of use & durability. The

device hubby ordered also can be hooked up to DJ's beloved ninetendo game cube

to play games. A life saver when we went to family beach reunion out of state.

The thing plays movies (with headphone!!) on our trips to grandmothers-hooked up

to the car's power source. I also invested in recharable batteries.

At the time of purchase it cost $113.97 in 2007. It is a Toshiba brand. We got

it at our local hhgregg after looking at ones on Amazon.

We buy alot of stuff from Amazon & hhgregg. Maybe look at amazon & then compare

prices locally. Shipping is free from Amazon on purchases over $25.

I am sure that prices have gone down alot since 2007. We did buy extras like a

carry case & headphones & rechargeable batteries.

So you will need at a minimum:

dvd/cd player with large screen

batteries-in use and standby

headphones

case (not just to transport-player stays in case to use providing stable

support)

Hope this helps some.

Love. Hugs.

we also looked for those things. Our screen is 7 inches - I believe there

may be 9 inch screens available now.

I LOVE the headset part - then I can ignore the soft, muted Sesame Street

while we are on long trips.

Hi guys - just to chime in here.... My son, Jimmy (18) is a video fiend, so we

also invested in a portable DVD player for him to use in the car, on trips, in

doctor's office waiting rooms... We got ours at Sears - I'm not even sure what

brand it is. The thing I wanted to share was that, if the player gets LOTS of

use, it will invariably break. When we purchased ours, we also purchased the

Sears extended warranty for it for an extra $15. The warranty lasts for 2

years. Since these things seem to last about 18 months in our house, this is

perfect!! We have gotten 2 " free " players at the 18 month mark when they broke.

Each time, we purchased the extended warranty for $15.....so we are essentially

replacing the player for $15 every two years. Just something to think about.

I'm not sure if other stores offer the same warranty, but it's been well worth

it to us!!

Peace -

We buy KOSS headsets for a similar reason - they have a lifetime replacement

guarrentee. I own two pairs so I can send one back and for a very small fee

(like $6) I get new headsets . Elie will only use the huge puffy kind which

cost about $25/pr.

And we got an IPOD - but it is too small and expensive to be really

usefull. The DVD player is GREAT - I use it too sometimes.

How are yours breaking because we did this and then they did not cover the

replacement (not at sears) because in the fine print it said, due to

damage....which was exactly what happens with our little guy. My MIL thought

she had found the way when she discovered that many stores replace with the

extended warranty, but then in the end, it was not possible. Just curious and a

note of caution to others. We too go through DVD players like toilet paper. We

get at least 2 a year. He is getting better with them but each time the model

changes and we also have to go through the new dvd phase of screaming...I mean

learning.

Hi, my son is 11 and has the exact same issues with the videos and dvds. Sears

used to replace items that were broken no matter how they broke, even the dvd

player that my son put 2 dvds in at the same time and it would not open. When i

purchased the last one they told me that they no longer had that policy, it had

to be normal breakage :( i thought maybe that they had my name in a database of

not to sell the protection plan to because of the number of items that i had to

have replaced due to ....lol.

As far as the videos/dvds go, do you find that the DVDs only last so long before

they are scratched and cannot be played?? I have tried all kinds of cleaners

and even car wax, but nothing seems to protect them. I think that VHS tapes

last ALOT longer!

I am still buying VCR tapes - and we have to replace some of those often -

depends on TRS! They stretch and break. But we still have 2 VCR's stored

to replace dying ones. Wonder what we will do when they are gone???
