Rope ladder shall be used with Rope Grab Fall arrester as a safety measure. Rope ladder shall be hung atleast 8 inches away from surface of the elevation of the structure on which it is fixed. ( remember there was a fatal accident in kudankulam where this distance was ignored and the rope ladder was fixed just near to the surface. While climbing the ladder there should be enough space between the ladder and the surface to accomodate the foot of the workmen). As far as possible rope ladder shall be tied firmly at both the ends and even at intermediate to prevent the oscillation. I remeber. there was a discussion in this regard during HSEO Meet long bak. HOD was of the openion that Rope Ladder requires high skill to use and all workmen who work at height may not be capable of working with rope ladders and suggested to rule out the usage of rope ladder even with the rope grab fall arrester. Update me with the developments that u come across.
