I think

cranes are also covered in MV Act & Rule.

The driving license as per the capacity is

required i.e.-

Upto 2.5 Ton cap - LMV

Above 2.5 Ton to 7.5

Ton cap-MMV

Above 7.5 Ton cap- HMV

In addition to the driving license from transport

authority , the authorization can be made additional requirement.

Whencontacted Our Dy CIF Chennai, licence is not mentioned in the act ( FA1948) so they can not demand

the licence of drivers. But if there is any accident they have theright to ask to prove the competence ( nothing but licence )

Dear all,Motor Vehicle Act is not applicable to Mobile Cranes (which are NOT Tyre Mounted). They didn’t have RTO registration no too. Yet, we insist Crane Operator must have HGV license and minimum 3 Years of Industrial experience in crane operation. For Tyre mounted cranes Motor Vehicle Act is applicable, and requirement of license is as mentioned in the Act. Dear Mr.Sunil, Kindly clarify whether the below mentioned specs are available in Motor vehicle Act. Motor vehicle Act defines Motor vehcile as below, "motor vehicle" or "vehicle" means any mechanically propelled vehicle adapted for use upon roads whether the power of propulsion is transmitted thereto from an external or internal source and includes a chassis to which a body has not been attached and a trailer; but does not include a vehicle running upon fixed rails or a vehicle of a special type adapted for use only in a factory or in any other enclosed premises or a vehicle having less than four wheels fitted with engine capacity of not exceeding 1[twenty-five cubic centimeters]; It seems that Poclain may also come in this category which would require a driving license. May please be clarified. Dear Friends,

I request to see backside of any driving

license (Laminated card, not the book type) issued by Road Transport Office

of Govt of Maharashtra.

material handling equipments are listed out there, which indirectly says, all

need license.
