Guest guest
An IEP is basically the same. It just means that you're tailoring the education to the child. It lists what interventions the child needs in order to receive that free and appropriate education. That's why it's Individualized Educational Program. So if the child needs certain alterations (anything from a person proficient in sign, to sensory integration) it would be in the IEP. You would state where the child is now, and how to get him to advance, whether it be through one-to-one aide, special teaching techniques, whatever. Guest guest
Charlyne: I can't believe you called and even without specific suggestions it was great to talk to you. I think I've got a pretty good email in the making that I plan to send to the teacher, the principal and the special education director for the district. It is just highlighting all the good things that are in the IEP, hence, if these things are not done, the IEP is not being followed. They already have all the information they need to succeed with Isaac. If I fail, I would consider homeschooling Isaac. The problem (it seems to me) is having enough money to sign Isaac up for all the extra curricular activities he would like. For example, trumpet lessons. But then it isn't just enough that he learn to play the trumpet (a little) it has to be a place that is going to have a concert. He ALWAYS wants to perform. I think he would gladly give up school if he still had a place to be with kids his own age and concerts to look forward to. I continue to be amazed as to how hard he is trying this year however he sees pretty clearly. If and when he realizes he will not succeed in the way he wants to, he would be willing to listen to a new plan. I fear I do not have the stamina for lawsuits. I hate to admit to being such a wimp. And it drives me nuts to be in debt. I would be up nights (as I'm sure you are) thinking, " how am I going to pay for this? " Usually I'm pretty courageous I don't know what the deal is. I'll try to use your inspiration (and all the other parents who have girded for battle) as inspiration! Lori Mom to Isaac and Tony
