Guest guest
I have tried growing kale microgreens on my window sill and they also grew " stalky " and no leaf. Definetely a problem of light. I have purchased a grow light from Home Depot ($7) but the weather did not encourage me to grow microgreens. I have the new book " Microgreens " . It says definetely this is a problem of not enough light. Sorry I cannot give you more info on lights.
Guest guest
I planted some veggies into peat pots and put a grow light that I bought from Lowe's with the bulb and one of those clip on lights with the silver colored reflector. Probably about $15 or $16 for both. However, the plants are that came up are very leggy. Problem is that I turned the little square container around and didn't put in each row what was planted and I have no idea what it is tht came up.  Mostly these look the same but there are a few here and there that are different. I thought maybe the legginess was from not enough light. If I ever get to plant in the grown I may lay them down and cover them. Only have a couple leaves at top and then about 7 " of stem. Carolyn Wilkerson  ________________________________ To: " sproutpeople " <sproutpeople > Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2012 7:07 PM Subject: Re: I have a good sprouting (keeping them cool) question!! Guest guest
And get a load of this. Today I went to my husband's doctor (he's also my doctor) to pick up some samples of his meds. My doctor LOVES sprouts. Whenever I go there I always bring him a nice bag of sprouts (all kinds). His sister cooks for him and makes salads for him. He's not married. Well, I had a bag of my brassicas and as I'm handing it to my doctor, one of the staff comes over, takes the bag to show her daughter. My doctor said 'Give me back my sprouts " . I burst out laughing. One of them said " She always brings in sprouts, next time bring us some'. I said 'Really? " And she said 'Absolutely " . So when my husband has his next appointment (in a few weeks), I guess I'll be making LOTS of sprouts that week. lol Melody P.S. You will love to hear that I spent 10 minutes explaining to the whole staff about the benefits of broccoli sprouts and how sprouts are a super food. They were LISTENING!!! lol
Guest guest
I guess that's why I never have a problem with light in my living room. I have the shelves against a wall and every morning the sun shines BRIGHTLY on my shelves. My sunnies, pea shoots and other greens LOVE it!!
