Guest guest
-Hi welcome to the group. I am sorry to hear about your pain.I wasn't sure from your post if you had problems with your neck or in your back. Although in this group the two seem to go hand in hand. I know for me letting and asking others to do things for me was one of the hardest things to do. I fought and fought with that one for a long time, hurting myself over and over for days because I was too stubborn to ask or let others do things for me. I never really thought about it before I had to go thru this but it has made me appreciate what handicapped and older people have to go thru. And after one neck surgery and three back ones and almost 7 yrs later I still overdo from time to time cause I hate asking others for help. But I think most people learn the hard way its usually not worth doing somethings when you end up suffering for several days. And my kids even yell at me when they see me about to do something they know I shouldn't do it makes me feel bad sometimes but I know they are doing it because they care and have seen me suffer so much they don't want to see me go thru it again. SO I try and remember people help me because they do care and not cause they see me as weak for needing help but to avoid the pain it can cause later. Still its not easy even after 7 yrs so you are not alone. Again welcome to the group I pray the shots help you wherever your pain is. Guest guest
-Hi welcome to the group. Sounds like you have had to live with pain almost all your life. I am sure that was hard as a kid dealing with knee issues. Did they ever consider replacing your kneecaps or would that not help you? My sister in law had that done on both knees now and it has made a big improvement in her life. But I know they were tough surgeries too. And she had one done years ago and just finally had the other one done recently cause the pain had gotten too bad. Anyway welcome to the group I am sure you will find lots of wonderful people here who understand your pain. Feel free to post whenever you want. This is a really good group of helpful and understanding people who all deal with pain somehow in their lives. Welcome again. Guest guest
I can certainly empathize with your fatigue! That is one of the most bothersome symptoms I have! I am quite a bit older than you (49) and I was recently diagnosed with early RA and mild Lupus. I have found that sublingual B12, a good B complex vitamin, and CoQ10 help alot with the fatigue. It doesn't cure it, but I am able to get up in the morning and get to work. Before, I was getting up, and laying on the couch for an hour before I could get going! Diet is important too. I have recently eliminated wheat, and cut way back on sugar. I am pretty close to you. I live in San Diego! --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Hi , I am originally from San Diego, met my husband when I was going to CSUSM. I grew up in North County. I have tried the exact vitamin combo you speak of and unfortunately it didn't help me. All it did was make it impossible for me to diet, because I was so hungry all the time. It was like my metabolism increased but without the energy. I havn't tried eliminating wheat, I have heard that it could be good for some people. Do you know exactly why, is it an allergy thing? I have cut back on the sugar, virtually no sugar sometimes....and I can't honestly remember a change in energy. I've always wondered if I maybe have an underlying hormonal issue that is intensifying my symptoms, but could never get a doctor to diagnose it. The only thing that has ever somewhat worked is the Cycle Diet, but at the time it was hard to stick to because it's pretty much vegan half the month, and I was living in a remote area at the time (my husband was in the military) and it was really hard to buy anything organic/vegan. Hmmmm... I should try it again , now that I live closer to civilization! Thanks for making me think of that!!!!! Thanks for the input! Your awsome! Hope you are feeling good today! - --- In , Merlich <cruisintheseas@...> wrote: > > I can certainly empathize with your fatigue! That is one of the most bothersome symptoms I have! Guest guest
Hi Ann thank your for your feedback. I will inquire about the lyrica. I just always worry about the side effects being worse you know... if anyone has tried it or is on it- I would appreciate hearing how they feel about it. Thank you. Welcome HI , Welcome to the group and hopefully you can find many here to empathize and answer many of your questions or just give you support--- I do not know much about your condition but I do want to say that my PT had a serious accident over 25 years ago and she was married to a radiologist who tried to help her to no avail. But she has recently told me that she has a new drug that has worked wonders for her nerve pain-- called Lyrica--- have you heard of it? Ask your Dr about it; it is to help with neuropathic nerve pain. Guest guest
Well, I went to a psychiatrist and he felt I had anxiety so he recommended it but I stopped taking it today. I don't need counseling .. quit wine six weeks ago and haven't lost a lb so maybe the lexapro was not what I needed! We'll see now that I've quit. Guest guest
I felt the same before I started taking it. Only took it for a month. I don't like taking pills that I don't need. It was my doctor's idea, I think a kneejerk reaction. Drug companies make a lot of money on this stuff. Like your " elvis rocks " .. the only other site I use is Browne's. Guest guest
I've been on it for so long. I still get samples from my doctor so I luckily don't have to pay for them so far... til they go generic. I ran out of them once and didn't have them for 2-1/2 days and I thought I was dying! I am not in a point in my life where I could say, hey things seem ok, I'll try to wean off...so I'm on them for the long haul I guess. Guest guest
I'm the titch in question ) I'm sorry to hear you're having problems, but the good news is that there are quite a few specialists around - ones in London, Bristol, Oxford, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle spring to mind, so if you give me a rough idea of where you live I can give you some suggestions on where to look for a specialist. If it goes ahead, there may also be a meet up of various members of the scoliosis-support.org forums at the end of August, so I'll update when I know more in case you're able (and want) to come ) Cheers, titch
Guest guest
Thanks Titch, lovely to hear from you. Yeah, I'd love to hear about the London specialists. I contacted SAUK in the meantime and they told me about two doctors at Guys and St (sorry can't find the piece of paper with their names right now). Any other suggestions would be great! My main problem at the moment is trying to figure out whether the pain in my legs, and especially the feet, are related to the back and then getting my GP to help me find that out. So far the GP only referred me to a foot specialist who gave me an exercise to stretch my calves for a couple of months, that's it. Of course he knew nothing about backs and couldn't tell what might cause the pain. It's getting so bad now I'm finding it hard to stand even for a couple of minutes whilst waiting for a bus and having to swallow painkillers in anticipation of the supermarket queuing. Maybe it isn't related to the scoliosis but would love to be reassured. The way the NHS works, I have big doubts whether they'll let me see a scoliosis specialist because of leg pain. Btw, I was told you're running a Uk based forum or did I misunderstand that? What is it called? Again, thanks so much for getting in touch!
