Guest guest
Hi , I'm not certain that I completely understand, however, something stinks. If you already have an independent evaluation then why are you getting another one? The IEP team must consider the IEE that you have already especially if the consultant was considered a qualified expert. Why are you getting another eval? Is the team asking you for another IEE using a list of their providers? Did the school complete their own comprehensive evaluation? Did you dispute the validity of their evaluation? I don't understand the reasoning for another IEE. The districts answers was it look like autism on a rating school but they were not allowed to dx. Guest guest
Thank you to everyone for all your responses and support. We got Aden's diagnosis (on our own dime) at the MIND institute at UC , and they are world renown in the field of Autism, but the school psychologist refuses to accept this diagnosis. She keeps trying to make us go to the UCAN team which is a group at the local university (which she just happens to be a member of). I am NOT going to the UCAN team, first reason it's redundant, second they have a 14 month wait, third if this genius is part of the team they can't be that bright. I'm hoping that by asking for an IEE at school expense that they will give in and accept the MIND diagnosis.  One of the other things she said is that she doesn't want to interfere with the insurance and our ability to get services through something called maplestar. I had no idea what maplestar was so I asked, and she just said they help with behavior. Well this afternoon I looked it up. Now I'm really PI$$ & D !!!!! This witch is suggesting we place Aden in FOSTER CARE!!!!!  http://www.maplestar.net/nevada/overview/levels-of-care NO WAY, NO HOW, NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!!! It's a good thing it's not a week day, I have time to cool down before I go in to the principle and demand that this piece of dirt be removed from Aden's IEP team. If I have anything to say about it she will NEVER have anything to do with Aden's education again. And if I can I'm going to make sure she's fired (hey a budget shortfall is a good reason to let this waste of funds go). One of the goals of our school district is to get parents more involved with their children and education. Not to get parents to give their kids away. I'm still in shock. I'll post again after I meet with the principle. But after reading the post, I assume you are being sarcastic, right? Oh and do not let the school use his insurance for anything. There *IS* a cap on insurance services, especially Medicaid and many people do not realize that. > > Hi all, > > We found out yesterday that Aden doesn't have Autism while he is at school!!! > In addition the school psychologist was protecting us from having problems with > our insurance company by denying the Aden has autism, because now he can get the > services he needs. Guest guest
This sounds like a nightmare. I am going through a similar situation with my daughter's team psych. I seriously don't understand how these people who barely know our children, let alone our families, have so much power over us. These people who are supposed to be helping us-are hurting our families in ways that are actually abusive. If you have the funds, it might be a good time to hire a reputable Advocacy Attorney in your area. And no matter how difficult, please, please keep your cool. Believe me, I understand how hard it is to stay cool when THEY have FAILED you! Tape every single encounter with every single person you speak to at this point. I'm walking similar shoes, and the irony is you go to these people for help and this is the result. Try to focus on how much you love Aden and you will get the strength you need to make this right! Guest guest
Hi , Many times school districts tend to steer parents to specific consultants on their list for IEEs. Most times these consultants will write their reports to reflect the school districts opinions. I see no reason why you should bring Aden for another evaluation considering that your IEE comes from a highly qualified expert. It would not be ethical for the school psychologist to encourage another evaluation from a group that she is involved with. It would not be considered an independent eval. A school psychologist usually does not have the license credentials to diagnose or dispute a medical diagnose. I suspect she was told by the administration to refute the diagnose to prevent Aden from getting additional services. Did the school psychologist do any testing? The team can tell you that he doesn't present at school with autistic issues which I suspect would be your situation. I think it was very poor judgment on her part to assume you were requesting an ID change to qualify for residential services. Remember that an IEP team only has to consider an IEE that many times is reading the report without comment and moving on to the next item on their agenda and this is considered legal under IDEA.  I doubt complaining to the principal would make a difference in the situation. You could research autism resources in your area and ask them if they have a list qualified ed consultants. I would call and interview them, ask for their vita and request that they do a school observation, report with ed service recommendations. I would first rule out that they have no contract or affiliation with your school district. An IEE from a highly qualified ed consultant may get you the services and ID change easier. The IEP team may not budge after this but your chances of prevailing in mediation would certainly be in your favor. The key is to careful craft a plan that offers you options and the district less. Guest guest
If you need to file a Title II ADA complaint, you can find that form on my son's FB page. It is a public figure page designed to help others, bring awareness, and promote Charlie Hart's Law. You can find it by searching CHARLIE HART TENEYCK on Facebook. Your state DOE should have the FORMAL COMPLAINT form on their website, but as in our case, they may not make it readily available. If you need help with that as well, let me know. You do not need to fill out *their* form in order to file a Formal Complaint. > > > > From: Concerned Parent <mykidsmatter@> > > Subject: Good News > > To: > > Date: Saturday, June 4, 2011, 8:47 PM > > > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > We found out yesterday that Aden doesn't have Autism while he is at school!!! > > > > In addition the school psychologist was protecting us from having problems with > > > > our insurance company by denying the Aden has autism, because now he can get the > > > > > > services he needs.
