Guest guest
We got that figure from DFCS but it is the amount charged to clients living in residential care . That figure was the same in PA and in GA and I do think (but cannot document) that it is a Social Security rule that NO MORE than 72% can be taken for rent. The rest is to be used for personal care. All of you do know that if you are fiscal payee you will be sending in a required yearly report of money?? My husband keeps track of rent and expenditures so that he cana fill out the 4 pages each year (we just got one this week.) > > > Hi Sara, > where did you get the 72% number for charging rent? Guest guest
Our annual report is one page and receives the max amount. When he was 18 y/o, only received the minimum because I did not report that he contribute to room and board. Once he had turn 19 y/o went back to the SSI office. Told them that started to contribute his portion of the household expenses. I have attended 2 training session with a fellow here in Texas name Scarborugh and found out at each time, he would ask the families attending how many of their individual with disAbilities were receiving the maximum amount and there were only 2 of us out of maybe 50 attending. Thanks to one of my friends who guided me here. Irma,21,DS/ASD > > > > > > > Hi Sara, > > where did you get the 72% number for charging rent? Guest guest
Sara, I love the fact how your dh helps here. This sure helps staying on tabs of these expenses and services. Guest guest
Alrighty then, looks like is getting a rent increase this year. She gets the max of $674 but I've only been charging her $350. The 72% would be $485 or so!! So I guess it's time to change. I wonder if raising it gradually would be better? Will the increase be raising any red flags I wonder? Talked to dh and indeed, he has filled out the SSI form for the past 2 years. Irma what are you charging for room and board/rent? Margaret....I told you privately last year or more ago how we went about getting the increase in SSI to the max...it took some finagling and perseverence but it finally worked. Re: guardianship....I wish we had gone with the simple version of DPOA etc. but we got some bad advice and were really in a bind as was due for a medical procedure; a " friend " dropped the ball and we got stuck going for plenary guardianship...which is a real PIA as we have to fill out a bookful of forms and fork over $400 every year in addition to the 3 grand it cost us at the beginning. Right about now...with all of dh's medical bills and insurance claims rolling in, 's CDC medwaiver paperwork being due, SSI records, homeschooling records, behavior data, medical records for jamie changing to " adult " doctors etc. etc. I feel like I'm drowning in paperwork. Sherry YES - if you xcharge too little, the amount of SSi is REDUCED - doesn't make sense but there it is. We get a form from SS once a year it is folded and has four sides. We DO NOT have guardianship =- looking at Tx and the mess with guardianship, I am soooo glad we didn;t go that route. Bob is just the fiscal agent or representative payee for SS. Guest guest
COLA - cost of living (not sure what the A is for). Happens once a year on SSI, but news says there will be none for the next 2 years. > > > Sara, > sorry to be obtuse but what is a COLA?? and how does he get it and from > whom? > Sherry > > > > > > > > > > > > > Alrighty then, > > > looks like is getting a rent increase this year. Guest guest
Whoops - comes form SS and requires no action from you. Note however, that if and when your child gets MEDICARE the premioum will probably take most of the COLA. > > > Sara, > sorry to be obtuse but what is a COLA?? and how does he get it and from > whom? > Sherry > > > > > > > > > > > > > Alrighty then, > > > looks like is getting a rent increase this year. Guest guest
> > Irma what are you charging for room and board/rent? I do not have my notebook in front of me right now but I want to say about $375.00. I recently been sharing this with several friends as most of their individuals with disAbilities are only receiving the minimal as they were wondering how I did it for my son to receive the max. Ok, Texans if your individual is only receiving the minimum, here is my information that was shared my way. This is back when my son was 19 y/0, which still works the same but the numbers have changed. I'll leave as is with leaving my son's name XXXXXX. Remember this is when it use to be $415 as an example. RE: Anyways... to make it short and simple... You need to go to Social Security Office... Tell them that XXXXXX started to contribute his portion of the household expenses.... The household expenses are: Mortgage CPS Water Groceries How much of each do you spend a month.... example... say..... Mortgage: $1000.00 CPS: $200.00 Water: $50.00 Groceries: $250.00 Then you divide this total by total number living in the house... and that is xxxxxx's portion of household expenses.... You cannot have the total go over what you are currently receiving in SSI already. You said he gets $415 a month right now... if the total is over that $415... then you can just tell them that you have xxxxxx pay you a " flat " room and board fee of maybe around $375 or $350. Once you fill this paperwork out with SSI... it's real simple... go in. They will increase your SSI to the maximum which is around $615 or so. When you fill out his SSI report at the end of the year... don't forget to document what his room and board is..... Right now he only gets the $400 because you do not say he pays rent and his portion of the bills... so this is considered Free Room and Board.... I was amazed how simple this went for us.
