Guest guest
A sipt and praxis evaluation by a licensed ot therapist with certification in administering this evaluation, would determine specifically what areas of the sensory and praxis area are affected and require ot therapy in this area. I would get the evaluation done privately, and not by a school ot, even if he/she is sipt and praxis certified. School based evaluations tend to have a tendency to not accurately pinpoint a child's areas of need, and you also have to keep in mind, that DIAGNOSING a condition or disability is for the MEDICAL SETTING PROFESSIONALS, and never to be done by anyone in the educational setting. As is having to touch something the samea way or look at the hand in a certain position. Elie used to hit the wall as he walked in school or in a mall. He also StTILL will bend his hand in a weird way and then look at it or hit it with his other hand. And OMG - you best not try to imitate him or interfere with that behavior. There are many stim behaviors besides the twirling. Elie never twirled anything, but he floated paper off air vents. Or made dust float in front of fans (Yes - I have dust in my house!) HE has certain babies (stuffed toys) that he grsps in the back and shakes high and low in a repatitive manner - that's stimming as well. I don't understand why no one ever labeled her with sensory integration disorder or whatever it is called. I wonder why none of her teachers picked up on that sort of stuff. I wonder what else she has. I can't take her into an auditorium or gym if there is something going on. She doesn't like certain stores. In NY she was in an ABA class or something like that. Here in NC she is in an AU class which is perfect for her. I don't understand why the psychologist said she wasn't autistic. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I just read on an autism board about stimming. Guest guest
School based testing is for seeing if the disability affects school based activities. And let us not forget things which affect SCHOOL BASED activities are all that they will treat in most S/D. So if fine motor is an issue, they will maybe teach handwriting. If walking is an issue, they will work on walking so that a child can walk in the hall. For some strange reason, altho my son had very high sensory needs, only one OT in all his years of schooling could make the great argument that his sensory needs were such that they AFFECTED his ability to learn! > > > A sipt and praxis evaluation by a licensed ot therapist with certification > in administering this evaluation, would determine specifically what areas > of the sensory and praxis area are affected and require ot therapy in this > area.
