Hi, Everyone...., Sasykjn (from the south?!?!?), and

.......welcome to the group. My son, Gareth, is 21 y/o with the

DS/Autism/OCD dxs.

He was dx'd initially at age 5-6 while we lived in Ca. He will be

finishing up with the schooling as of this July 30th. Due to medical issues, I

am

glad he will be out of the school system but, unfortunately, there isn't

any job he's willing to do, so I am not sure what my life will be like with

him home all the time!!! Over the past couple of yrs, though his body seems

to be falling apart with one medical issue after another. He's got GERD,

asthma, sleep apnea, developed seizures 11/2 yrs ago, hypothyroidism in

May/June, UCTD/Scleroderma 2 1/2 yrs ago. It's just one thing after

another!!! He just got out of the hospital with his 3rd bout of pneumonia in

18

months.....something he never had before. We moved from Lancaster Co, Pa, to

State College 2 yrs ago and still go back to Hershey Medical Center for

most of his specialists. I have been very pleased with them. Like Leah's

Ashton, his neurologist and PCP have repeatedly brought up the big 'A'

word......Alzheimer. His PCP told me on Friday that for a DS adult's body, he

must remembers to add 20 yrs to the age and think of illnesses that go

according to that age.

Ecki......I am glad for Kayla, especially if that is the best option for

her. Having an adult center is a good thing........I am finding that out

now!!!

Take care, Everyone.

Margaret
