What a poorly written article. I sent the comment below to NAM. This is a completely dreadful article. It could have been titled, many patients HELPING their situation with CAM. Clearly, it is biased--and inaccurate. For example, the only study of echinacea in people with HIV found a small benefit and no risk. Garlic does NOT have any clinically significant effect on antiretrovirals. COULD have talked about the benefit of 3 g/day of acetylcholine for managing neuropathy. And the role of a multivitamin in slowing progression and reducing mortality and morbidity clearly indicates a role for such an intervention.
