Guest guest
"However the bad news is since March 06 I have gained 18 lbs and it isall in my abdominal area, all this without any changes to my dietwhich was already high protein, low fat. Waist size went from 33" to 38"."It is common to gain weight when starting HAART, simply because of improvements in health. As you presented with 72 t cells, you clearly had pretty advanced disease.Have you asked your doctor if you actually have the usual HIV type of fat distribution? Or, your brother, the nurse? While the term "protease paunch" is catchy, the cause is not certain. While the belly began to appear with the arrival of HAART, it may have more to do with long term use of other medications, especially nucleosides, causing shifts in fat distribution. I'm not sure I would leap to the conclusion that dropping Norvir would lead to benefits.I would certainly discuss this with your doctor before considering changes in medication. Norvir boosting provides dramatic improvements in the pharmakokinetics of Reyataz, and the suggestion that you just drop it is not responsible, without any more information about your history, laboratory values, or other facts about your over all health.
