How does one go about finding a good therapist? We don't want to tell everyone

our child has OCD. We live in the Florida Panhandle if anyone has a

recommendation.

I would find out if there is an OCD support group or resource group for parents

w/ children w/ special needs and ask them for a referral. You might just have to

call up and ask then if they do CBT and work w/ children. You don't necessarily

have to give your name but you do have to be upfront and straightforward about

what exactly you are looking for!

The OC Foundation also has lists of therapists for different

geographic areas. It would still be good to get a personal

referral, but the therapists they had listed for our area included

the best ones in our town (a couple of others were not as highly

recommended). But the list also indicates whether they use CBT/ERP,

etc. so that helps narrow things down a lot. Best of luck.

I would call the Brain Institute Shands? at the U of Fla in Gainesville and

ask for a referral or suggestion of a therapist near you. They have a

child anxiety clinic and I believe there is at least one other campus

somewhere south in Fla too. They are doing " cutting edge " research into

PANDAS and OCD there...Dr. Wayne K. Goodman and Dr. are there.
