Guest guest
Unripe fruit is full of starch which will feed bad bacteria. Bananas in particular are prone to this so should only be given if there are brown spots on the skin i.e. very ripe. My thoughts are that the starch may be feeding bad bacteria hence the increasing behaviour etc. Dr Natasha Campell-McBrides book Gut and Psychology Syndrome is very good for giving details of foods and what they do in the gut. I would recommend it even if you are not doing the Gaps Diet.
Guest guest
My son eats two bananas a day too!!!! I find it hard to find snacks that aren't fruit on the GAPS diet, especially as doesn't seem to be able to tolerate the nuts yet. Could you explain what a trail mix is? This is my first time on this site so hope I have done this all correctly?Best wishes Belinda >>You did just fine Belinda, great to have you here and well done for Autism Mothers campaign! Guest guest
Dear Iris My daughter used to have severe runs when she had bananas... I think that they are quite high in sugar and as sugars can react with the bowel I suspect this may be the case... When she had bad candida bananas were terrible.. I have found with myself that I often crave the food that is irritating my system the most.. If in doubt take it out of the diet. We kept dd off bananas for a long time and she is now fine with them Hope this helps Tracey Can eating too many bananas make ASD children worse? My son has been regressing, i.e. more agressive and more severe symptoms. He loves bananas and eats 2 sometimes 3 per day. I´m trying to find out what causes his regression and am wondering if too many bananas can harm? Hopefully someone can help!Iris
Guest guest
Eddie used to eat 2-3 bananas a day. We worked hard at reducing them by introducing him to other snacks (trail mixes etc). He tested very high in potassium and bananas are very good for potassium. This improved when we reduced bananas (though there are other reasons why our children have imbalnaced sodium/potassium ratios). Bananas are common allergens too - I think it would be good to give them a break and retest later. Best wishes, Sandy

Guest guest
Bananas, while nourishing, have a high glycaemic index: ie, they give you a sugar high and then trigger insulin reease which may lead to a crash in blood sugar. Eating them with cream should make the glycaemic index less but also make you much fatter! Margaret > > > > > > > Can eating too many bananas make ASD children worse?
