Guest guest
I saw a movie that I rented tonight and just had to pass this on to see this movie!!! It is called "RADIO." It is excellent. My boys saw it the other day, as I have a one week rental with Blockbuster. They watched it before I did, and they liked it. They wanted to see it again. I finally got around to watching it tonight. I highly recommend that any one who can sees this movie. The movie, based on a true story, is about a boy with disabilities, and he is noticed each day (as he walks by the football stadium practice) by a football coach. One day the team picks on this boy and the boy is terrorized. The coach does not allow it and makes this boy one of his helpers for the team. The coachgives him time and attention. The boy watches all their practices, and later that boy helps the team. The school did not understand the boy at one time, and wanted to get rid of him as they feared that he might be unsafe to the school. He was not a student, but the coach got him in the school and he attended and he helped. The boy's mom ends up dying, and he had lost his dad years before. He is left with no one. He stayed as a student at the high school, and got an honorary diploma. By the way, later the boy stayed on as a coach Today, he is still there as a man in his 50's or so, and he has been asst. footabll coach for 26 years. This IS a true story, and based on the life of a high school football coach who takes an interest in this boy and gives him a chance to help. They nicknamed the boy RADIO as he always liked a radio and carried one. The boy is retarded or very learning disabled. The story takes place in , SC, and although I had lived around there in SC two years after the time that this story took place, I had never heard of this story. It is very inspiring. I highly recommend that everyone see this and it should be required viewing for any high school student to help them understand the world of those who are different. :_)
Guest guest
Just to fill in a little more of the story (and how I can sit in Shetland telling you this...) The story is true - the music in the titles was written by a singer/songwriter called Chuck Brodsky who lived near the town and knew 'Radio'. I heard the story from him when he was here at the folk festival earlier this year. There is also a cd with the track on it. Funny how bits of a story fall into place all over the world!
