Guest guest
<<I have lost track of all his developmental and medical labels, and maybe that's not so bad. He's just .>> Hi, Everyone.....Beth....I know exactly how you feel because I am in the same *boat* with Gareth, and he will be 21 in May. We had a few good yrs, after he went on the meds, when all seemed so right and our lives were really good. Then, he had to have reconstructive hip surgery, the Scleroderma hit, and now seizures. The good days are few and far between anymore due to the seizures, but once we can get them under control, I am hoping for a couple more good years ahead. <<People are starting to suggest meds?????? I'm not ready to mess with her mind, but some days, i think i need to be looking into this.>> .....the best thing that we ever did for our son was starting him on Risperdal/SSRI meds at age 10. After being on meds, we could finally connect and start working on behavioral issues. I just went to a workshop with Dr Capone and his session is under the Files section on the Home page. Please read what he has to say about medication. We don't start on kids on meds to turn them into compliant zombies, we do it because their brains need them. Your daughter is trying so hard to communicate and because she can't tell you everything that she wants, she shows it behavior wise. One of the plusses about medications is that for many kids, it enables them to finally communicate.....whether through simple speech, pecs, or augmentive devises. I once had a psych ask me " what my problem was " because I expressed my guilt about having him on medication. If he was diabetic, I wouldn't hesitate.....would you? You admitted she's smarter than the 'tests' show.......look how talkative other 10 yr old girls are. If you decide to try meds, you can ALWAYS stop at any time if you don't like the results. Our slogan is 'start low and go slow'. We will be right here with you......your new cyber family. Take care, Everyone. Margaret **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above.
