Guest guest
This is unacceptable. Perhaps, you could contact the principle/director to set up a meeting. There should be some sort of documented plan in place. I know for older kids the document is called a 504 Plan, but they should have something similar for the littles attending school. If they don’t, let me know and I’ll fax you a copy. Then you can at least revise it and insist that the school develop something similar. This is a very simple accommodation that the school should have no problem providing. Good luck and let me know if you want a copy of a Colorado 504 Plan. Your child should be treated with dignity and respect. There is a plan in public schools you can have done for your child if they need special accommodations. I can't think of what it's called at the moment. But I would definitely have a one-on-one discussion with the teacher. If she is unwilling to make an adjustment to how she is treating your child, then go to the principal. I had to do that with my son about his bowel issues. All else fails and you get no where, there may be an agency in your state that deals with these kinds of things. We have an agency in Oregon called Disability Rights Oregon. They are an advocacy group that handles these kinds of discrimination cases. Hope that helps. Oh, and remember to DOCUMENT all of your attempts to communicate with all of them. Documentation can take you a long way. She should not be getting annoyed with your daughter b/c she has a disease and needs some extra care after gym class. She was crying and crying last night and this morning. She said when she comes back in the classroom after getting it put back on, she is lost and doesn't know what the class is doing. She mentioned the teacher gets aggravated with her when she is not doing what she is supposed to be doing. I don't know if I should ask the teacher if this is so, as she may take offense. Anyway, Gabi does not like to be different than the rest of the kids so not sure what else to do. But thanks for your input, I do find it helpful.
