Guest guest
in our area that have mini type buses, for the public, they are red and white, and all handicapped accessible. many eldery for shopping and dr appts, and disabled ride them plus routes of preschoolers from some daycares. rides the co-city bus 2times daily m-f, with with co-workers from the workshop and his waiver monies pay for it as he is unable to drive a car or ride his bike or walk safely the few blocks to work and the school wont pay for any vocational, which was a huge disagreement, but they are more than willing to go along with our plan as long as we or the county pays for it, when they get all that extra money just for having nathan there at the school, level 3 student, jeesh. sorry got off on the wrong subject there---anyways I think learning to ride some kind of public transportation is important for independence. We have had a few problems on the occasion, all with one older male bus driver, but the company just works with us and things get resolved quickly. shawna http://sewshawna.blogspot.com ________________________________ To: Sent: Monday, February 2, 2009 8:12:33 PM Subject: Beth <<They are talking about teaching him to catch the bus cause we live quite close to his work place and there is a bus stop out in front of our house. Has anyone ever done this? >> Hi, Everyone.... .Beth.... .we have 'job coaches' that usually teach the kids bus routes. Where we live there is a special service (part of the bus service) where anyone with special needs can call and book a ride, in a large van, for a minimal cost. I, personally, would have my son learn that. I would be afraid of him taking the bus by himself. Take care, Everyone. Margaret ************ **Great Deals on Dell Laptops. Starting at $499. Guest guest
Hey Beth, No we are near the city so luckily nowhere near the fires. My brother has been stuck in Shepparton since Saturday, they closed off the hwy and he cant get back just yet. Fires either side of the Hwy. Its a worry, lots of lives lost. After reading your post the other day, I went and found a place here that you can do ABA courses to be qualified ABA therapist. A place called ABIA (Autism Behavioural Intervention Association) here in Vic, does a 3 day or 10 week intensive course and they're running all year. I'm looking into doing one so I can be Jemmas ABA teacher. http://www.abia.net.au/aba.html
