Guest guest
Oh Margaret, I am sorry to hear that Gareth is back on the rollercoaster again with his meds. While Pete is on depakote @ 500mg 2x/day, he takes it as a mood stabilizer. His psych said he could take up to 1500 mg/day but we never went that high. The current amount along with risperdal and clonidine all seem to work pretty well right now. He had been on slightly higher doses of all three and I started cutting back a little- first the depakote, then the clonidine and last the ripserdal. He too was really, really drowsy for several months which improved when I lowered the doses. We can tell that the depakote has had a positive effect- he has just been happier, chattier, and less explosive. He's somewhat less impulsive. I was hoping to decrease the depakote some more, but decided to leave things as they are for now. It's been one of those longer, slower " aha " moments when it occurred to us that he just seemed *happy* and not so flat or anxious. He has been pretty responsive to the behavior strategies we continue to have to use pretty consistently too, of course. But I don't feel we are living with the sense of being under siege that we had several months ago. Thank God for that! But, all that being said, I don't have any new input for your specific question- I sure wish I had. Do you want me to check on the DOWN-SYN list? Thinking of you guys... And stay warm!
