Guest guest
Sara, You story is so heartwarming and I am glad that when you see Elie he is happy and happy to see you. Does he write on his calender or what does he do with it? Cyndi B > > Went to see Elie yesterday. Guest guest
Someone writes for him - his story as he calls it for that day. Then he asks to read it to him so he can know his plan for the day. It seems to make him more able to DO what is on the calendar if he knows aheada of time what is going to happen. Guest guest
Elie can write first name and last name. HE can copy anything written for him in block letters. He can read those pictures of words he has learned(as in any logo or any of the EDMARK words. He has a sight vocabulary of about 300-400 words, but cannot write any of them without a copy. The OT at school thought it was a waste of time even though it is in his IEP. Cyndi > > Elie can write first name and last name. HE can copy anything written for > him in block letters. Guest guest
Sara, I am so amazed and impressed with Elie. He has come a long way and matured into a fine young man. You must be soooo proud of his successes. I also know a young man in this area that is 20 with DS. After leaving high school and entering post secondary education and the working world he has matured as Elie. The parents are stunned watching the transformation. I am hoping for these milestones for Zeb. I wonder if it's the age or the schools holding back the maturity. Guest guest
HE wrote his first Y (His full name is EYAL. ) when he was about 6. He wrote his whole first name at about 12 ish. He insistes on at least 4 lines for the capital 'e'. His 'y' looks like a devils fork. But he can write the whole thing. When he got a sensory OT - she had him writing his name in sand and with sandpaper and using a slant board with markers. All this helped. I wanted him to at least be able to sign his name. Guest guest
Wow. Leilani here, I read your post and it makes me so happy. As I read, I had a smile on my face and was thinking about my son. I pray that someday he will be able to enjoy life as much as your son seems to. It gives me great hope for the future. Good luck and take care, Leilani ________________________________ To: Sent: Saturday, January 10, 2009 8:59:33 AM Subject: Visiting Elie Went to see Elie yesterday. Guest guest
Thinking back on that visit - he had that big goofy DS grin the whole time. I don;t remember the last time we saw more than a itty bitty smile - he was very happy to see us obviously - and also very happy to see us leave. Of course we made a mistake going on a FRIDAY - he went out with thguys directly after we left - after all - dart throwing and oogling girls has to have FIRST PLACE in the life of MEN!
