Guest guest
Hi , Yes, we are currently having an ice storm after 4 " of snow. Thankfully, I have heavy duty construction equip including loaders, plows etc. I live in the woods with a long private drive. I filled auxiliary 5 gal water jugs in case of electric failure. We have a well so no electricity means no water. I also have an outdoor woodstove that heats our house and water which means we don't have to purchase oil. The temps are expected to rise so I am not very concerned yet. Guest guest
Charlyne, you are such an experience trooper all set up. Charlyne, your state's Basketball team are really up there in the top list. They really do have some good players which I caught this past weekend. Stay warm. Guest guest
Glad I cancel out traveling out to Indiana this week, as we normally commute out of the Cincinnati airport. Sorry to hear about your dad's company though. Stay warm and safe everyone confronting these winter storms. Irma,20,DS/ASD > > We are recovering from ice storms and snow. Guest guest
Charlyne, Our town is never prepared. I used to have a boss from Wisconsin and she laughed at the fact this town would shut down over 1/4 of an inch of snow. They were forecasting 12 inches but we ended up with about 3 inches. You sound more prepared than I . I did stock up with groceries Monday night with the talk of snow. I have heard the forecast so many times for lots of snow/ice and then nothing happens that after awhile you think should I or should I not get prepared. Sometimes I think the news people are trying to help promotes sells for grocery chains because all the bread and milk sell out and then no storm. This time they were right and I do have food. Thank goodness since they called school off all week. Fifty-Nine schools are without power here and it will not be back on until Friday. Shelters have been set up for residence because 100,000 people are now without electric. They say it will be 7-10 days before everyone is back on. You sound so sufficient I am jealous. I bet your place looks beautiful all covered in snow. It is really pretty here with ice frozen trees. But I am a warm weather girl.Cyndi B > Hi , > Yes, we are currently having an ice storm after 4 " of snow. Guest guest
Cyndi, Â I live in New England so our town is always prepared for bad weather. Because I do not live on a populated street, if I loose power I will be one of the last to be restored. I am always prepared when an ice storm is in the forecast. The snow is nice but beautiful to me is green grass, warm temps and sandy beaches. The trees are building with ice but nothing as damaging as your area. It's just more of a nuisance in this area. When we fly out there to visit my hubby's family, we have to commute out of there. This is one of our connecting flights, SA to GA to Cincinnati then to IN. Sometimes if bumped, we then reroute towards Chicago. Either way during this time, seems like we probably would of been stranded. Well back to some reading which one of my friend has me doing as she is moving out to Washington in March. http://www1.dshs.wa.gov/ddd/budget.shtml Irma
Guest guest
I'm in Indianapolis, Indiana and we have 12.5 inches of snow. About 2i nches of that came Monday, then on Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon we got the rest. No school yesterday or today. But we're fortunate that it is just snow; no ice. We are nice and toasty in our house and went sledding for the first time ever yesterday. Beth Due to ice/snow KY declared a State of Emergency We are recovering from ice storms and snow. Guest guest
Charlyne, I am with you there on the warm temps, sandy beeches, green grass, palm trees, and Kenny Chesney or Jimmy Buffet music. I would love to visit New England. I have always wanted to visit New England, Maine but when we could afford to going on trips ya know it the old days my husband always went to Florida. Not that this was a bad thing it is just I wanted to go somewhere different once in a while. Cyndi B > > Cyndi, > Â I live in New England so our town is always prepared for bad weather. Guest guest
Irma, Some good friends moved to Austin Texas and we miss them. My daughter and their daughter were school friends and girlscouts. This girls mom and I became friends due to me helping her with the girl scout haunted hike. We had a blast performing skit's. We actually won a contest and we were proud. Cyndi B > > > > > > Irma, Ya good thing. I would be worried about the wings icing up. > > Everything happens for a reason. Guest guest
Cyndi, Curious on what kind of creative skit, did y'all come up with? If the clinic is open today out in Austin, I need take a cruise out there, time to re-stock on supplements once again. Definitely can not afford any set backs. Austin is not far from where I live but then I am use to traveling. Want to say at least about 70 miles but it all depends with traffic. Weather here of course is nice even it is a light jacket here and there. Yesterday, went to volunteer a wee bit with my friend at this one elementary school that are having a Disability day, all the grade level kids go to each table at different time to hear about the various issues of disabilities which I think is very nice and got to try out should they have a some uniqueness. Heard them, say how hard it was, like if blind or see things differently wearing some 3-D glasses, trying out some tactile & visual activities, really listening about the service dog, signing, etc. Today, another day of it and probably swing by again, if not due to my trip. It sure be nice if every school would do this. Irma,20,DS/ASD > > Irma, Some good friends moved to Austin Texas and we miss them. My > daughter and their daughter were school friends and girlscouts. Guest guest
Irma, Each year the girl scouts all did mostly scary scenes and the little brownies were to scared. I decided to make our fun and not scary. The 1st year we did 101 Dalmatians. I was Cruella Devil and the girls dressed up like Dalmatians. We painted a back drop that was pictures of puppies come out of the windows of a castle. Through the door I would come out and say " Have you seen my puppies? " and then the little girl scouts came out dancing to " Who let the Dogs Out " ? The Next year we did the Haunted Mansion with a small verbal skit about the roads being closed and the kids having to stay at the mansion. We had one kid dressed as the soothsayer in the globe, (4) girl scouts were the singing heads like Walt Disney, etc. We had a great time and one every year for about 3 yrs.You volunteer what a Saint you are. For the blind kids do they use scented markers? What kind of things do you do with them? Your not kidding it would be nice if all schools did that for the students and had someone nice like you and your friend volunteering. Jacket weather I am envious. I want jacket weather anything besides snow, ice and winds. Thanks for the info. Guest guest
Cyndi, the skit programs sounded too cute, how creative and fun I can imagine. Love the themes used. The booth with the information for the blind were having the students eyes covered and using the stick. I did not see any scented markers, this would of been nice though. My friend was actually the one who organized this event twice and this is her last as she is moving out to Washington soon, really going to miss her (military). Guest guest
Irma, I am sorry that you are losing your friend. I know to well about losing friends.Over the years my friends have moved away. I have one friend that I have known since high school but we rarely see each other due to different work schedules. One of my best friends got me at me over something really stupid and stopped talking to me. Our daughters had plans to get tickets and go to the Jonas brothers concert. She grounded her daughter and told he she could not go. My daughter was going to get the tickets from a 3 rd source that was taking her time about telling her if she could or could not get the tickets. The 3rd source finally called and said she could get the tickets but she had to know how many within like 15 minutes. My daughter tried to call he best friend but was unable to reach her. Now keep in mind this girls mother said she was grounded. I could not afford being stuck paying for 2 tickets so my daughter told her she only needed one ticket. My daughter went to the concert with the friend that got her the ticket. My daughters friend got upset when she found out my daughter went to the concert without her. Then her mother my friend called me and said her daughter was crying because she did not get to go to the concert.I said wait a minute you grounded her. She said Oh I was going to let her go.This is all childish to me. We have not spoken since then. We have been friends for 8 yrs. I miss her. Tonight and I dropped my daughter off at the movies with her friends. Then and I rode around in the car while he watched a movie and I listened to music. I wish so much for to talk more than he does. He cannot carry on a conversation with me but I know he tries as much as he can. I kept wanting to get out of the car and go in somewhere but I have been in hibernation from all the snow and ice this week. My husband has been so tired lately that also makes me feel lonely. He comes home from work and starts snoring as soon as he sits down. Not much company. My sister does not have children but she is always trying to tell me how to raise mine. She is a school teacher and that is were her expertise lies. My sister and I are about 8 yrs apart and her lifestyle is totally different. She is constantly jet setting to Vegas,Bahamas, taking a cruise, etc. I try to talk to her but she thinks that all I talk about is . I guess I am boring because I really do not have much else to talk about other than autism, cures, etc. There are so many times I wish that you and the others on this list were not so far away. You really seem to understand what this life is like. Here I can talk about problems that others such as yourself have experienced. That is so nice.Sorry I went off on a tangent.Cyndi B > > Cyndi, the skit programs sounded too cute, how creative and fun I can > imagine. Guest guest
Cyndi, how old is your daughter? I could see why the mom all of a sudden reacted differently, after all it is the Jonas Brothers. Do not have teenage daughters but love their music too. I of course would of told the mom the same as you did but made sure to add whatever else going on as I do not play those numbers, of course in a nice way, not to harm our friendship. Hate those moments though, when this happens. Glad your daughter has other friends. I have nieces so thanks to them for getting me hooked here, this helps getting involved. Oh by the way, found a beautiful Cinderella dress brand for one my Goddaughter/niece and she just loves it! I have another niece I have to purchase a dress for, so I at least past this test, ready for the next one. It is for their future First Holy Communion. What fun this was. My nieces just love it that I have the same interest with them because I buy whatever Disney stuff out like the CD's and they know one of them will inherit them and so when I go over. They make sure to share whatever with me and even when their friends are around, but I manage to then find that right time to stray away and give them their space and take with me to tackle then the guy things. He does luck out here but it is such a girly thing. I noticed is slowly straying away from wanting to watch TV Disney, guess he has mature some here and not mom. So now I have retrieve back to action movies, Discovery, you know all the history stations with him which I use to do with his brothers. He still prefers only his Disney movies, just not the TV shows at this time. Still all good though as he will go the theaters without any battles, we pass this test too. I see really getting more back into his athletic ways which is nice because this will get me back into the physical activities once again, hopefully help with some of my weight since I go through my modes feeding my emotions. Yes, I too, experience this. I have been waiting for to get back into this mode and perfect timing as he will have Special Olympics soon. I can now add some hiking, walks, etc. to our agenda. Miss these days. Still, when visiting, will sit through whatever going on but since feeling better, sometimes dance with his cousins or attempts to interact with the Karaoke with them which is nice to observe. My friend who is leaving, she has 2 kids 9 & 11 y/o, boy and girl. So, I purchase each one of them their own Ipods for Christmas gifts as I know they enjoy music. So, yes my other friends and I have become like their adopted Aunts which is really nice since they do not have family here and her dh is satisfied knowing this. We try to hang out and go places like bowling, eating out, go to basketball games, just like most of my nephews and nieces they always include us which is too cute. Well, my friend is moving but she has already invited us to visit them out in Washington state once they settle down. I have never made it out that way when one of my sister use to live out there but will not mind adding it to some of our travel plans. Which I do plan to do with God willing. I plan on giving her a mini-lap top as a going away present split between my other friends and I. We are also planning a going away party soon. She leaves in March, her dh is still out in Korea so no telling when he gets back and then decide to pack up and leave early. Our lives are never boring thanks to our kiddos, so hope your friend comes to her senses and values y'all's friendship and not waste it over what? It is too bad, that they are not around, left hanging like that, was not right. Does her daughter even try to communicate with your daughter? I do have a sister with a 26 y/o son with special needs who I have recently become his Respite Provider this past week just so that he would not lose the funds where his name just came off on one of the Medicaid Waiver programs. I just went through all the hoopla needed with the paper work, past all the test and training needed, I am official now. Pretty interesting too. Since is back in school and my nephew is no longer and he chooses not to go to those Day Hab's. I need to get him out and work around some of the areas according to his Level of need. Really do not care if his parents are going out or not in my book, it is just getting him more involved. His fixations are drums and guitars, same old, same old, totally the opposite of . I do understand on being on the same channel. I know though as my friend and everyone who are across the miles, y'all are chosen to spread your wealth of information among others who walk in similar shoes not to fall into these cracks of living in society example like my has when he was younger or now when tackling the older issues. So our mission besides fighting for our individuals is for many other like our kids and their siblings do not fall behind. Yesterday, another sis and my 20 y/o niece with her 4 mos. old baby wanted to take a ride with me to Austin when they were checking up on what I was up to and told them that I needed to replenish 's supplement supplies so I am grateful that at least they did not mind when my journey revolves around Stevo. Because riding with me, it is going to be about what my world revolves around. Everyone keeps coming back, so guess all is well in this department. It was not like this in the past though. Cyndi, since being involved in the autism arena, this is where I have made lots of friends here to stay connected with and since their individuals with autism fit in on how to work around in a similar boat, this helps us to plan get together like pizza night at a restaurant that serves Gluten-free food items and even those whose kids are not into the GF love to take advantage of just getting out. Wish I could show y'all pics of the adults with autism at our outings and the parents are all smiles because we can relate and how they love to share what they can. I love it also when 's brothers friends come over, they always ask me about and then they get into telling me about how it is going on with them at college and then get into trying to eat well. Amazing how our kids can rub off towards other. I was even given some small gifts like a bottle of lotion or soap, get this Organic because they keep me in their prayers for what I do. How sweet. Cyndi, you are never boring, it is because you have so much to give or share. It is just finding that right channel to make some connection. Guest guest
Irma, Tonight we went as a family to see Madagascar 2. This was our first family function with F.E.A.T Families Effective Autism Treatment. We did not get to socialize before the movie with anyone because we arrived just in time for the movie. I enjoyed myself very much knowing that if makes sounds this people would understand and not tell my son to shut up. That actually happened once at a Premiere for a movie. On the subject of my daughters friend.Well she and that girl are friends again but my daughter is not a close to her. My daughters said she is to clingy and is annoying. Apparently her friend is constantly texting 's boyfriend while my daughter is talking to her. My daughter hates this and she can tell is not listening when my daughter is talking because is always asking her to repeat what she says. does not live with her mother my friend anymore and now lives with her real dad. 's mom kept breaking up and getting back together with 's stepfather and cannot stand her stepfather. One reason is 's mom left the step dad for someone else and then the step dad and 's mom got back together. This has been on and off for about 2 yrs. Not good for .The step dad actually kid 's mom and out 2 times. Now 's mom recently remarried the step dad. who is very sweet does not talk to her mom anymore and she said that no one seems to matter to her mother but the step dad. I guess I was a friend when mom left the step dad but when she goes back to the step dad I am no longer needed. I think it is wonderful that you have a sister that can relate to you and . I have heard my sister say that kids like need to go to an all special needs school because unless the teacher is trained to work with these kids they do not know how to teach them. This is probably true it just hit me the wrong way when she said made that statement. It would help me so much to meet someone here that has a kid like . That way I would have a friend that we could both takes our kids wherever and I would not feels so alone. Guest guest
Hurray for at the movies and as a family. That is alright if unable to socialize, pretty sure there will be other opportunities at least y'all were able to get out. Glad to read the girls are still friends but I could see why. Too much, going on indeed. Guess everything happens for a reason. We have not seen that movie yet, think it is coming out soon, so can not wait to see it. Yep, sisters, have plenty of them but none have actually told me anything, yet. Maybe they know better. ; ) All in due time Cyndi you will on having a friend who can relate as you. Remember you are on a roll here for you, your family and especially for Andy and this are the steps onto the next wherever it takes you. Guest guest
Beth, Sorry I just saw your message about the INY snow storm. Monday Feb 1st JCPS are still out. Most of the ice is gone but they are talking about us maybe getting another storm Monday night. Glad you guys have electric. I cannot wait to go back to work. Going stir crazy. Cyndi B > > I'm in Indianapolis, Indiana and we have 12.5 inches of snow. About 2i nches of that came Monday, then on Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon we got the rest. No school yesterday or today. But we're fortunate that it is just snow; no ice. We are nice and toasty in our house and went sledding for the first time ever yesterday. > > Beth > > Due to ice/snow KY declared a State of Emergency > > > We are recovering from ice storms and snow.
