I feel for you.  Most people in the family " know " but they don't get it.  Most

still think that you can spank the autism out of him and then they get offended

when I just dont show up.  I know I shouldnt segregate us like that, but

sometimes I think it is just easier.  This has been the cause of many an

argument between my husband and I seeing as it is usually his side of the

family.  But it doesnt help matters either when hubby isnt completely on board

either.  We are still fairly new to the GFCF diet, and he doesnt buy it.  He

doesnt see teh progress, he sees a more expensive grocery bill.  He doesnt see

me advocating, he sees that Im not spending time with him.  It has been pretty

difficult and seems to be getting harder lately.  That is why sometimes I feel

like Im alone in this.  Thank God for this listserve and the support, otherwise,

I may truly go bananas!! Take Care, Leilani

Hope everyone had good holidays. We did. Had some extra explaining to

do about to unknowing relatives, which always takes me by

surprise but that is ok and I get over it. Just part of the dual dx

thing...

Does anyone else have unempathetic relatives? Ugh

> Leilani,

You are funny about spanking that autism out of your Down Syndrome

son. I have a sister in law who claims that she has a neighbor who

knew all along about my son and his autism......but did not say

DUH!!!!Like we did not know.....ooooohhhhh.....and we were always

there for and ugh the people who know a little and become

experts on gluten free health, Down Syndrome, autism and social

anxiety disorder all at once and want to pontificate about their

nephew who they only see once a year. Help!!??

I will not go bananas...even thought the bananas are walking down the

street trying to get me at times.

Thank this group for being here.

LOL.  I love it when my MIL likes to come over, on the rare occasion that she

does, and reminds me how she did it with five children all one right after the

other without any help, and her house was clean, and how I should watch Jon and

Kate plus 8 to see how they handle things.  I feel like telling her that im

doing it with 3 children, one of whom has DS-ASD,  plus her overgrown manbaby of

a son.  Walk a mile, baby, walk a mile.  What we do is tough, but we keep at it

because we all love our children.  Hell, if what we did was easy, my husband

wouldn't spend all his free time avoiding having to do what I do.  I swear,

sometimes I think he goes around breaking things so he can go and fix them.

Keep on keeping on Superwoman!!! Leilani
