Like any other SSRI, Effexor may slow down the metabolism and thus

may cause someone to gain weight. However, I haven't seen anything

about *dramatic* weight changes on Effexor. I am recently off of

Effexor (within the last week and moving to Lexapro) because it

stopped being effective, which is typical. I was on it for about 2

years. I gained about 15 pounds in those two years. BUT, I also

moved into my 40s which does account for a slower metabolism. BUT, I

exercise pretty heavily, which would account for a *loss* in weight.

BUT, I can also attribute my new " tummy area " (as my family calls

it), not to 75mg of Effexor, but multiple bags of salty snack foods

every night - probably to relieve stress. Hmmm, I wonder what could

be causing all this stress?

Bottom line is that it might, but I don't think there's alarms in

weight gain as you might see with other meds.
