Guest guest
I know that some of us struggle with what to do about wandering kids. I am at the end of my rope with mine. Since the age of 2 Gavin has been a hoarder. He gets up in the middle of the night, raids the fridge and steals tools, knives, tape, markers, and anything else he would not normally be allowed to have. Its almost like he is saying " ha ha, I have it anyway " . When he was 2 I put a hook and eye lock on his door. It worked for years. He can always go onto the roof if there is a fire. This year, about 2 months ago (he is going to be 7 on 8/1), he learned how to open this lock from inside his room, so I jammed it at night so he couldn't. I worry about him wandering when I am not up AND he goes outside. Well, within 2 days, he broke the hook and eye, and the replacement. So I bought a chain lock. He opened that from the inside too. So I bought a door knob with a lock but no key for his room. I got it home and it didn't fit. I bought the hole cutter tool, but couldn't get the drill to work with me. He thought this was funny. I got really annoyed and took the bathroom door knob off and put it on backwards so I could lock him in. I get woke up the next morning by my son, I am then frustrated and ask him how he performed the great escape this time. He then tells me my worst nightmare. This young child climbed out onto the roof, and jumped down, and luckily I had forgotten to lock the front door. I was soooooo mad, but all I could do was hug him and ask him not to do it again. He agreed and hasn't, but I can't help but worry. Its like he just had to show me that I didn't win. So anyway, in my case there is no stopping this one. I thought about the alarms, but I think he would set it off all night just to hear it. So I am frustrated in Philly:) ~Sharon
