Guest guest
I don’t think you or your partner should dismiss the tremor on account of age. Fifty-one doesn’t sound that old to me. I’ve been HIV-positive for 20 years. Over the years I have had periods where I had a terrible tremor in my hands. It was especially bad about 14 years ago. It got to the point where I could not eat soup like a normal person; my hand shook so much that the soup would just spill out of the spoon on its way from the bowl to my mouth. I had to use both hands to keep the spoon steady. My doctor did not know the cause of the tremor. As with your partner, he also gave a name to it, although I’m not sure if it was “essential tremor.” I hate “explanations” like that. It makes it seem like it’s not possible to solve the problem. My tremor lasted about a year or so, and then it went away. I’m still not that steady with my hands, but that was true even when I was a kid. (I’m 58 now.) In my case, the tremor occurred during a very stressful period in my life, and it seemed to let up when I got my anxiety under control. Do you think stress might be a factor with your partner’s tremors? Good luck. Allan Hello friends - My partner has " essential tremor " in his hands, especially his right hand. " Essential tremor " just means tremor of unknown cause ... he has always had a touch of it but in the last year or two it has become much worse. We don't think it's related to HIV medication - went off meds when his lipo developed, and has yet to go back on, because his t-cells and viral load have remained stable. It could just be age ... he's 51. Anyway, does anyone have experience with this or know of any treatments? I look forward to your advice - thanks! -
