Guest guest
My son is 10 years old and weighs 66 pounds. I do think I need to give him more of the inositol. I was just being cautious, especially since I am doing this on my own. The serving size on my bottle is 1/4 teaspoon, which is 1000 mg. How did you all do it 3 times a day with school?? The reason I ask is because of the small amount of inositol he is taking. My son responded so well to inositol, but at 2 tsps 3 times a day. He is now on a maintenance level at 2 tsps 2 times a day with virtually no OCD symptoms. I wonder if there are others using inositol on this board? When he got out of the bathroom I said how many times did you wash your hands? Dylan says, I don't know. I said you only need to wash them 1 time not 3. He said I did it more than 3 times. And he says, I washed them in cold water also and while I was doing it I was beginning to worry that my blood would freeze. So now it seems we are starting the worrying and washing hands again. I want to help him, but don't know what to do. He's not on any medicine right now because the doctor didn't like the side effects of the Zoloft. Although, I have on my own been giving him some inositol powder, 1/16 of a teaspoon daily. This is only the 2nd week. The first week I gave him 1/8. Our next therapy session is in 3 weeks and the neurologist isn't until February. I can't remember when the psychiatrist appointment is...... > > Becky (WV) > > > > --------------------------------- > Do you Yahoo!? > Send a seasonal email greeting and help others. Guest guest
Becky, I'd give the inositol each morning; then when I got home from work around 5:30-6:00pm. Then before bedtime. During the worse times, he even had it around 8pm or so. So he primarily got it Mon- Fri at night. On weekends we could spread it out more. With , I wanted it's effect at school so never missed the a.m. school-day dose. If could do more things for himself, I'd have just had him take it himself after school each day. (That Aspergers part of him just has problems with things like that.) For me, it was more of building it up in his system and just keeping the same amount in him daily. Sort of like with prescription meds, his keeping on 50mg daily. He takes his 50mg in one dose at night. But I could split it to 25mg a.m. and then p.m. to keep the 50mg daily in his system. My opinion if they are not on any other medication, is that you can't overdose on inositol (speaking of teaspoons here, not half a bottle at one time or something), and too much will probably just upset your stomach. The above being so long as they don't seem to be showing any side effects, the way any medication or vitamin/herb/mineral could affect someone individually. For example, 5-HTP seemed to me to make have insomnia and more...anxious or hyper or something whereas others it probably calms them. Nyquil and Benedryl hype me up. I always try to think that anyone can have their own personal reaction to something, just like with allergies to peanuts or milk or strawberries or dyes or.... If I'm doing this right, 1 tsp would be 4 grams for your inositol. So if you went for 6 grams a day, he could just take 1.5 tsp at one time or you could split it. 8 grams = 2 tsps, 10 grams would be 2.5 tsps a day. I'm certainly no expert. was really, really bad that first year, I thought he might have to be hospitalized. So he needed probably a higher dose. If 40 lbs can tolerate 6grams per Penzel's article, you might want to go a bit above the 6 grams, depending on how much OCD is affecting your son. Just some thoughts, it's been a long week so hope above made some sense! > > > > > > > > We had our visit with the therapist last night. She was glad I gave > her my " list " .
