Guest guest
In addition to those listed below, we have tried triangle shaped chunky pencils and penagain pens for Logan. He did really well with the penagain last year and this year they came out with a smaller, kids version and his writing backslid a lot. We just implemented keyboarding with him at school as he was getting extremely fustrated and I was afraid that his learning was beginning to be impeded by his ability to write. He typed his own name by himself for the first time yesterday and was so proud!! The school got a big keys keyboard for him and are trying to source either a lap top or tablet computer with touch screen for next year so he can keyboard and use the touch screen for making choices about stories, etc. Here are the links for the pencils and pens I mentioned: http://www.penagain.com/ https://www.dixonusa.com/index.cfm/fuseaction=shop.product/prdIndex=297 https://www.dixonusa.com/index.cfm/fuseaction=shop.product/prdIndex=279 https://www.dixonusa.com/index.cfm/fuseaction=shop.product/prdIndex=281 _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sara Cohen Sent: Monday, April 07, 2008 10:09 PM To: Subject: Re: other handwriting ideas More items: enlarged hand grip on soft lead pencil markers instead of pencils tripod pencils foam grips on pencils. slant board with raised lines on the paper. stencil line isolater card writing on sandpaper On Mon, Apr 7, 2008 at 9:43 PM, Jayne Hickey <jacksonsmom99@ <mailto:jacksonsmom99%40yahoo.com> yahoo.com> wrote: > The other things we tried... > > a slant board > > taping paper to a bumpy wall to write on and get some feedback off the > wall > > chalkboards > > move 'n sit cushion > > sorry, I just really started thinking about the different things we tried > before succeeding! Guest guest
Congratulations Logan on typing your name! just learned how to do that last month! I am trying to get a big keys keyboard for him to use at home - he loves the computer. The penagain is neat - I wonder how would like that. I'll have to pick one up at Staples and try it out. Thanks . Jayne " L. Davenport " wrote: In addition to those listed below, we have tried triangle shaped chunky pencils and penagain pens for Logan. Guest guest
I found mine at Walgreens, oddly enough. They also have them on Amazon. We did not get a big keys keyboard, but got a " kids keyboard " from Chester Creek. It has large keys in the QWERTY format and came with a small mouse and a few games that both of my kids love. The whole bundle was under $70.00. Unfortunately, the tablet we got to go with it is so old that they are not playing nice with each other. http://chestercreektech.com/product_info.php?products_id=9 _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Jayne Hickey Sent: Tuesday, April 08, 2008 10:19 AM To: Subject: RE: other handwriting ideas Congratulations Logan on typing your name! just learned how to do that last month! Guest guest
There is a pencil and pen out there that someone here suggested and it has been working really well for Jake (almost 9). granted it would work better if Jake had longer fingers. I can' remember the name, but it is a small pencil that looks like a sling shot. Like the capital letter Y. You put your middle or pointer finger in the Y part and it makes you hold a pencer grasp which is what they all try to acheive. You can buy them at Walmart, Target, and Staples. You can even get them in pencils and markers. Just another idea. Holly
