Guest guest
<<Like the time last week that I made the medical insurance customer service agent cry because we were being turned down for speech therapy because Down Syndrome is not a good enough reason to need it. So I broke and freaked out on her and she cried. Not my proudest moment...>> Hi, Everyone......Andiksu......We have all been to the point of taking it out on others. My only respite is when Gareth is in school. My DH is gone M-F so it is just me in the evenings. Gareth is 19 y/o and it has gotten better over the yrs. As for the school district, make sure that they understand that AUTISM is now his primary dx......for schooling and everything. That will get Carson the needed speech, OT, sensory tx, etc. Forget about saying my kid has DS. Your kid is autistic and that is where the behavioral/sensory/speech issues will affect him for the rest of his life. Check out all your options and go with you motherly instincts.....that is all you can do. Also, contact your MH/MR case manger......they may have more options/therapies available with the autism dx that aren't available with 'just DS.' Whenever you get overly frustrated, log on here and vent your thoughts/feelings/ problems. Someone will always chime in and help. Take care, Everyone.
