Guest guest
My MD is both. You might want to check on their specialty. I am staying away from the Hematologist since he was not up on this at all but the GI is a Hepatologist as well and does a lot of liver transplants all over the state. I'm in the wrong business. I have to get an appt with a GI specialist to start with, I'll do that tomorrow. I have no bad habits except my cholesterol is bad, they can't put me on anything until my liver gets a thumbs up. I don't drink much these days, so that works in my favor. Guest guest
HEP C LINE (888).436.HEPC (4372) - P.O. Box 35033 Kansas City, Missouri 64134 - OFFICE (816)763.4766 With all due respect I think you’re both right. Hepatology is as much a specialty field as the GI or any internal medicine. Some GI’s specialize in Hepatology, others don’t. Some Hepatologists know their field, others only know how to refer to the more experienced. Others are competent, but not always up on the topic, because what makes their living isn’t always what they went to school for. I think the best thing to say is that whether you go to a Hepatologist or a GI – or any doctor – you should check on what his credentials are, what his speciality is, and what is his history working within that speciality. That’s the only way to make an informed decision.
