Guest guest
For me, no. I felt like a pro at the second casting but everyone is different. It doesn't get any easier emotionally for me though. All of that happened to Bex in his first cast at 19 months. He would get stuck on the floor like a turtle. He did get it all back, in a few weeks, a bit more every day. The only thing you mentioned he didn't have was the throwing up. We put him on his back in his crib with 2 small, thin pillows under his head to prop him up slightly- we put the pillows under the fitted crib sheet. He did get turning over in the crib down in a few weeks or so, too. Stair climbing took maybe a month. > > Yes, the falling is bad at first- they are like a projectile that is off balance and top heavy! I would remind the school she can get stuck and to just pick her back up, also to stay very close for potential falls- especially on concrete or another hard surface, until she relearns her balance point. She will! We just love SLC, too, they are awesome!!! > > Heidi, Bexon's Mommy, (2 and a half years old, in 6th cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 61 degrees to 25 in cast) > > > > > ____________ _________ _________ __ > From: mckinneys <clmckinney64@ ...> > To: infantile_scoliosis @yahoogroups. com > Sent: Sun, March 14, 2010 9:51:05 AM > Subject: [infantile_scoliosi s] questions after 1st cast > > > Hello All! > > We just returned from Shriners SLC and what excellent people! > > Londynn is 14 months old and very mobile - the cast has not kept her from walking (nearly running) but she can't seem to sit on the floor and play with toys, crawl, pick things up from the ground, or get up from the floor. I am hoping this will only be a matter of time before she has all of these skills back, or an adaptation of them. We follow her around walking because if she gets off balance she falls backwards and hits her head. I know that when she returns to daycare tomorrow that they will not be doing this. Is all of this normal or should we be worried about any of this? She seems to be able to sit in her high chair perfectly - it clips onto the edge of the bar - at the moment that is the only place I feel comfortable walking away from her for even a second. She is sleeping in bed with us - because I am afraid she will get stuck rolling over and possibly suffocate. Another issue is that she likes to eat - in fact I don't think she can > recognize when she is full. We are now having to be very careful of the amount of food she eats as she throws up almost every time she eats. On the plane coming home we gave her a cup of apple juice and about 10 animal crackers and she threw it all up - it seems like a whole lot more coming out than going in. Any advice on any of these matters would be greatly appreciated. > > Thank You, > Cyndy >
