Guest guest
Logan has the EXACT same issues. We use a wad of toilet paper to " block " . At school or camp, he does it himself. At home, he still insists on us doing it. We are trying to make the move to standing, but because of size, the is no way for him to direct it. We are also moving toward having him lean his forearms/elbows on his knees. That seems to get everything where it needs to go without the paper, but if he leans back, look out! LOL! Good luck. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Thursday, February 07, 2008 2:17 PM To: Subject: potty training/toilet seats Hi all. It seems like forever since I've been on to chat, but of course I know this is where I can get answers to the " real life " issues we all face. Gavin will be turning 9 in April. It's hard to believe! He still is not potty trained and I am sure it is because of a toilet seat issue. With Gavin being overweight and very under endowed his penis is inverted. When I put him on the potty (he insists in sitting) there is no way to direct his stream of pee. So when he goes it sprays over the top of the toilet seat, all over the floor, down his legs etc. It not only scares him, thinking he is doing something wrong, but with his sensory issues it really upsets him. I am wondering if there is anything out there that would " shield " his stream and keep it maintained in the toilet so we can achieve success, instead of making this a nightmare. I cannot use those toddler seats they sell in the store because of his weight. They tend to close his legs more and the pee just pools up on his legs. I have gone online to many medical supply places, but what I am seeing is a toilet seat that is elevated... that sure isn't going to help either. If anyone has gone through this, or has seen something I am open to ANYTHING right about now. Thanks so much.

Guest guest
You guys are great!! I knew I would hear from someone that could relate. The first link you sent that had the shield for the toilet... You said you have that. Can you attach it AFTER they are sitting on the seat? Guest guest
I love the bottom one! It is just like the toddler one we used to use. My only concern with having that at home would be Logan losing his desire to " block " when in public. Hmmm! Gotta think about that one. I sure would have a less fragrant bathroom! LOL! Guest guest
I think you need to get a wide stool for him and save your back. I just recently stopped lifting Logan on. At one of the programs Logan goes to, there is an entire floor/stage type thing built up around the whole toilet about 4 " . I told my DH that I want one! _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Thursday, February 07, 2008 2:39 PM To: Subject: Re: potty training/toilet seats You guys are great!! Guest guest
You can and it a bit hard to attach and detach....but sure over use be easier. We used it once and cleaned it up and boxed up. It is flexiable and easy to push down. so I am thinking would not be too much to leave attached and push it down once he on the potty pull the guard up. If you like this one, welcome to have it... just pay for shipping... I will clean it again before sending it out. Like I said we used it ONCE and not for us,we are smaller. potty training/toilet seats > > > Hi all. Guest guest
Wow that would be neat to have around the toilet, but would it intefere with other people using the toilet (like getting in the way) or can it be moved? I mention it to my DH also. I'm sure he'll get right to building it! Guest guest
My SIL built one for Tori to use last year because I couldn't lift her anymore. I have arthritis in my basal joints of both thumbs. It was made of metal, slid back totally around the toilet and it had a beautiful wide step on it so she could turn herself aroun don it. Guest guest
hehe sorry to laugh but i remember this, nathan's thing use to be so short, out grew that, lol, anyways i rember even his little brother would say " neenee (nickname) push your dinky down) so finally we gave up on that and taught him to pee standing up as those pee gaurds are worthless, pee still comes all around instead of a stream straight out. And since he would pee all over most of the time, i got him an ordinary urinal, like they have at the hospital and he just peed in there, worked very nice at the time, he has since outgrown those and uses the toilet fine. shawna. Guest guest
No, My son is 10 an even has a potty trainer at school specially for him. He just doesn't get it. He has pee in the toilet twice. Must of time he sits and giggles, puts his hand in the dirty water. He can flush the toilet, and say bye to the poopies laughing and that's it. he still hides to go on his trainer. Vanina Brehm potty training/toilet seats Hi all.
