RE: SID and OCD

I've been struggling with this distinction also. My son's 14 now, but before

any of our diagnoses I remember standing in the sock department at Walmart,

looking at all the packages I'd opened and examined the seams on, crying,

thinking I've got to be the only mom on earth who has such a hard time

finding just the right socks for my kid. I never knew there were others out

there. In our case, they think it's SID, and suggested OT for it. However,

the 'brushing' they recommended didn't really work, maybe because he's

older. He still has super-sensitve senses (can hear and smell things no one

else can) but he's better with clothing - maybe because we went through hell

for years with hockey equipment (just imagine all the 'seams' on that stuff!

and the team heading out to ice and him tantrumming 'cause everything's not

right!) We stuck it out and he's okay now. No one ever suggested it was OCD.

I'm still very confused. When he's stressed, the OCD flares up, as does the

SIDs (and TS tics and asperger traits). I sometimes wonder if ANYONE reallly

knows, or if all the experts just guess like we parents do.
