Guest guest
Hi All, I am celebrating today. My 2007 work season is finally over! I have been reading most of the posts but with little time to respond. Zeb did well transitioning into the high school but we have had some issues with his behavior. Hopefully, now that my body and mind are home I can figure out what's going on. Zeb received an award from the CDSC this past weekend, outstanding person with DS. I got the call Thursday night from a CDSC board member. I was stunned he was nominated but disappointed that I was not able to attend this year's conference. My girlfriend took him to accept his award. It will probably be the only award he ever gets in his life and I had to miss it. I felt so bad moreso for myself. Zeb was nominated for this award because he was the only class member to testify before the expert advisory panel in the PJ case. The class action case represents all students with intellectual disabilities in Ct. The settlement agreement called for an oversight board to review progress in the area of inclusion in the general classroom, overidentification, extracurricular activities etc. The EAP consisted of a team of well respected educators throughout the country. Zeb did a great job talking about his experiences in the general classroom, good and bad issues. He had three minutes each time to speak about whatever topic he chose. He spoke about reading, extracurricular activities and overall acceptance of being recognized as a valued learner in the general classroom. Yes,I cued him each time. Zeb was suspended from school last week. I have a school meeting to discuss the situation next week. I think I should take his award with me,LOL. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 14 DS/OCD/ASD?
