My daughter is 6 with severe OCD and we are working with a wonderful

CBT therapist and have seen some great progress. We have also

started her on luvox (for about 3 weeks now). My question is for any

of you parents who have had experience with luvox. It seems to be

disrupting her sleep? Sometimes she's up at 4:30 a.m. and sometimes

she can't even get to sleep until 2:00 a.m. We started giving her

the meds in the morning as opposed to nighttime. Lately she tends to

get very nauseous when she takes it and the last couple of days she

hasn't been able to keep the medicine down the first time. I'm just

concerned about switching her because I've been told that this SSRI

is very helpful with OCD and we have seen progrss. I'm sure I don;t

have to tell anyone how scary it is to think abour going

backwards...Has anyone else seen this kind of problem with their

child? I have a call in to the doctor but haven;t talked to her

yet? Just wanted to get some input from the people who have been

there.

Ava takes Luvox. She takes it with dinner to avoid the stomach upset,

she eats around 5-6 PM and goes to bed around 10-11 PM.. She doesn't

eat enough breakfast (at 5:30AM who can eat a lot?) so dinner works

better. She can't get to sleep if she takes it too late, like at

bedtime. Sleep is a big issue for her anyway so it's hard to know what

is a med problem and what is sleep problem stuff. She was able to

lower her Luvox by boosting it with Anafranil. Luvox has more side

affects, anafranil isn't as effective, but somehow together the

anafranil boosts the luvox so that a low dose of luvox can be as

effective as a higher dose.

Kathy: A family member (cousin) has been taking Luvox since May. He's up

to 250mg per day. I did notice as we approached 200-250, he has become very

sleepy during the day. He is a bit laid-back, so the calming affect of Luvox

is not good. I did some research and found Luvox has a " sedating " affect.

This helps explain why he is so sleepy during the day.

I will be speaking to his Psychiatrist on Monday. I will suggest switching

to Zoloft or another med.

Although he has not gotten worse over the past several months, I was

expecting more positive results with Luvox. I don't think the sleepiness

side-effects are worth it. I would like to see how he reacts to other

medications.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about finding the correct meds

? Is it just trial and error ?

Thanks so much for the info. What is Anafranil? I'm still so new to

all of this. I tried giving her meds with a full stomach,

but that doesn;t seem to help. She just can't keep it down. I have

spoken to her doctor since my original post and we are going to

switch her to zoloft. I gotta tell you - I'm scared to death. Since

she has not been able to keep the luvox down in the last 2 days we

have seen a significant increase in her OCD symptoms. She was only on

25mg. of luvox. I'm just so scared that the zoloft won't do the

trick like the luvox did, but if she can't take it, I don't see that

we have a choice.
