Guest guest
Hi everyone, is currently on the upswing, I hope, from an awful respiratory infection. Thursday as I was taking his temp for the bazillionith time that day, it registered 100.4 and it jogged my memory about the fever thread. I sat there and reflected for a minute about the fever that was experiencing. He was sick, yes, and pretty low key, BUT there was a huge increase in eye contact and connection and snuggling and just seeming like a typical little boy who was home sick. On a typical day, stands practically on top of the TV and hits it with swords, light sabers, guns, tinker toys, anything he has in his hand gets banged at the TV - it's awful! Well, for two days we had NO TV banging! It was pure bliss let me tell you. He also didn't do his one eyebrow up and one eye wider distant look that makes him look so detached. There was no Stevie Wonder movements( what does daily with the jerky head movements to the side). And the eye contact - it was wonderful! Then the fever broke.... slowly the banging at the TV was back, barking at the TV returned, gone was the eye contact, the Stevie wonder thing was back, the eye things, all of it back and seeming so much more pronounced! So for the past two nights I've been taking his temperature in both ears, just out of curiosity, to see what he runs - daily. I'm getting anywhere from 95 to low 98 but always different in each ear. He's still quite sick. Full of mucous and has these awful coughing spells. Green mung, you've all seen it before I'm sure! Last night as I was tucking him in, my heart was just breaking because he was completely out of it. It was like saying goodnight to someone with headphones and a blindfold on! He was just in his own world, jerking his head from side to side - not continuously but quite often. Just gone.... So, that's my experience on the fever thing. I think there's some validity to this. I did a little research on it and it's been being talked about for years. I found this story from 1999, ironically the year J was born! http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1374/is_1_59/ai_53536208 Seems there's something neurological that happens when the body is fighting a fever... Not that I want in a constant state of fever but they could be on to figuring out just what the body does that makes them connect when they have a fever. Just on my mind....
